Credit Card Fraud Alert, Not the Phone call you want to get...

I've had my checking account and 2 cards hacked. The checking account someone made a copy of my check and actually cashed a big check out of my account. The bank reimbursed me for every cent since they were the idiots who let the fake check clear. The 2 credit cards were crooks running random combinations of numbers hoping to hit a legit account, once again I was made whole. They threw up a red flag because either the expiration or the CCV number didn't match. Long story short is that having your account hacked is a pain in the butt, but really no financial big deal. Full identity theft is a totally different matter. -Russ
The Desert ROse resort in Vegas had problems with credit cardtheft for over a year. You can go to TripAdvisor and see comment after comment on how people got their info lifted there. Looked like a professional job as it continued even after mgmt became aware of it. Somehow people's info was being scanned from the outside. Not sure if its still happening - but I would avoid that property until I knew for sure.
Cindy, I get the feeling LV is a hotbed for CC
theft. There must be a highly organized ring operating there.

I mentioned here several years ago how someone somehow somewhere had gotten my
ATM card and password which the bank said was impossible. LOL

No money was ever taken out.

The whole matter was kind of strange.

I won't rehash it here.

It happened while I was in LV.

BTW, I was staying at the LVH at the time.

I wonder if that is where the problem is?

The funny thing is I never took my ATM card
out of my wallet.

Ever since that happened, I never take my ATM card with me to LV.

I have also had CC theft but I don't think it was in LV.

It's happened maybe 3 or 4 times over the years. The bank always calls me.

One time someone bought 4 tires about
2,000 miles away at a gas station. LOL

I'm using mostly AmEx these days and so far so good. LOL

"One time someone bought 4 tires about

I had to laugh a little at this as it reminded of the scene from 'the jerk' with steve martin, when the guys pull up to the gas station where hes working
"oh,throw a set of tires in the trunk"
"sure thing..mrs. nussbaum"

I told you that you shouldn't leave your wallet on the table at Olives. Those mail order Nike Air Jordans make me feel lighter than air! Has the airline ticket to Tahiti shown up yet? Thanks for the early Christmas persents and we'll send you a postcard. We need to have lunch together again real soon!

I usually place an order for flowers out of South America every month. Every month I get a call checking on the charge...but I'm not complaining.
3 times in the last 5 years I've received calls on questionable charges for small amounts around the country...2 of them not mine. The bummer is that you have to wait 5 days for the new card to arrive in the mail (both times it happened, I was leaving on a trip within the week).
This has happened a couple of times to us. I am impressed at how quickly our bank (U S Bank) has caught the fraud and how quickly it was resolved. The charges never went through. We have no idea how anyone got our number.
Just getting back from another trip, lol, and like Capt. Bill said........its kind of a pain in the rear,
because the NEW acct. # cards didn't arrive before we left. Luckily, we have others. lol

But one thing this latest experience made me do..........is go over the past years charges with
a fine tooth comb, and guess what?

Found a couple more charges (NOT related to the Texas heist)
But obviously Continuing charges from a Company that my husband did business with
back in Feb. Well, they continued to charge us in April and July.
The thing is, my husband Chaged jobs, so they had NO Authorization to charge that card!!!

So, I'm in the process of Disputing those charges too. Pretty sure they will get credited back.
Thought they were Legitimate, since my husband made the First charge.

Didn't realize he Stopped using them, but they continued charging us. geez.
Definately gotta be More Careful.
Just got the same phone call. 2 online charges that MC called about also questioned the room hold at the Riv. Only other place card had been used was at the car rental at the airport. Sounds as if they have a problem there.

I saw a show on TV the other night, where a (bad) guy or girl just has to be close to your wallet or purse with a portable credit card reader and they can get all the info they need in seconds!

At the end of the show, they said you can buy wallets with metal in them so the portable readers cant read the cards or you can simply put aluminum foil in your wallet covering the Credit cards.

The things we as good people have to do to stay out of trouble is getting rediculouse!
