Cromwell coming down from its high horse?

Last trip they were advertising $5 craps all day long. That seems a little red-necky for such a pretentious place. I saw room rates were coming down too. I wonder if they're having trouble catering to the uppity-ups?
I can't get past the memory of the tiny bathroom when it was Barbary Coast.
oh how I miss the Barbary Coast. it was small and convenient, decent BJ and slots, nice dealers. I would take a break from gaming and checkout the lounge acts / karaoke. good food and late night specials in the dining room. most all of us really miss the Stardust, but I miss the BC even more. my fave for sure. I have never been inside the Cromwell.

BC and Stardust were both great.
Friendly and quick service at the bar, but the VP paytables are terrible. I had a great time at their Bound bar on my trip last Oct....bartenders were great. However........ my daughter and I played slots in their casino in December and the drink service was non-existent. 30 minutes and not a cocktail server in sight...and we were playing in separate areas. My daughter finally walked up to the bar and ordered a drink...got charged $15. We finally decided to take a cab back to the Rio...walked out the back, past four employees that were busy talking and walked up to the cab line.....nobody in sight. We waited about 30 seconds and then I walked up to the lead cab, opened the door for my daughter and told the cabbie where to take us...the guys by the entrance didn't move.

The next day we had lunch at Giada's...never again. Waiter brought me the wrong order, and then gave me an attitude when I told him it was wrong...no salt or pepper on the table..had to ask for that. Food was average...I had a sandwich and a salad and my daughter had a breakfast selection...had to ask for some jam for her toast...cost us $100. I don't mind spending that kind of money at a Vegas restaurant, but I expect more from the employees.

I'd take the old Barbary Coast any day....even with the draft beer in their small glasses and the surly pit bosses at the craps tables. Really miss Victoria's restaurant for a late night/early morning breakfast.

I did receive a survey request from CET about the Cromwell and I told them about my recent visits to the place. I did receive a reply and an apology from one of their "suits" with an invitation to contact him the next time I visit and he will buy me a drink. I'm staying at Bally's next week, so I just might take him up on his offer....or head over to the Stage Door next door for a PBR and a shot of Crown instead.

Yep, miss the Barbary Coast, & Big Elvis, have seen him at Harrahs but not the same. BIGLAR73 is right on in his comments. Stage Door is inexpensive and a great place to people watch.

I like the look of Cromwell, but cant figure out what they want to be. An ultra hip "botique" casino/hotel or something you would find Downtown but on the Strip. This summer the tables were for the most part open & empty, but the pool scene must have been popular because there were a ton of 20-somethings running around in their bathing suits on the casino floor.

marko..

The guy would buy you a drink? Wooooooo.

I feel about Cromwell like you do. Nobody cares, empty tables with surly-looking dealers.

My one time in there (to play, not stay) was when I accidently tipped their lovely pewter-like coffee cup, with hot coffee on my legs. The spill was my fault, but the coffee was damned hot, soaked through my slacks and my leg was on fire. I was jumping all around trying to pull the fabric away from my skin to stop the burning. Dealers watched me, nobody made a move, nor asked if I was OK or needed any help. I'd kind of expected that someone would notice my frog jumping act, husband and friend Connie crowded around trying to help me, and send someone over. But no. Eventually I made it to the restroom, pulled my slacks off, stood at the sink and splashed cool water over the burn...skin very red but clearly not life-threatening. Two very sweet bathroom attendants came to my aid, brought me some lotion and helped me dry my slacks in the stupid blower thing you stick your hands into. Kudos to them, of course.

I've had employees at other places come ask me if I needed help just for a sneezing fit, or dropping something, or just looking around. Cromwell was all but empty during my hot coffee episode, yet nobody came to inquire. Maybe thought I'd try to sue, which I would not even think about, though my leg felt sore for half the day, still faint pink that night. OK, rant over.

And thanks for your review of Giada, because I was considering spending my $100 Diamond coupon there. Since I'm pretty sure $100 wouldn't go far feeding three people there, I'll use it elsewhere.
I, also, will avoid Giada's. Thanks for sharing your experiences there.
