Do you prefer to arrive late or early?

I live in NY and took the latter flights 8 or 9 pm and arrived late--got the car and checked-in, and went to sleep and started fresh the next day. I didn't lose an extra day of work. Unfortuantely the last 3 years, JFK had severe delays everytime I took the late flight--I kept getting in at like 2 am. So now, I take the first flight out in the morning and it has been great. Just need to nap since I have to get up at 4 am to get to the airport.

two things:

1. i always say i am going to check in and go to sleep and i never follow through. i admire that you are able to do it.

2. i reaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllly need to start leaving the morning after at the crack of dawn. i really do. REALLY do. i flew to california last year at like 8:00 am and there were zero delays and it was so nice.
My next trip I leave at 6:35 from JFK, arrive at 9:25. Somehow my boss agreed to me leaving 3 hours early at 4:00 PM. I agree that I risk a delayed flight. But the advantage of immediately getting into late night, degenerate, drinking and poker makes it worth it!
Like to arrive early. We usually fly out of Charlotte, NC. Live in Columbia, SC. This makes driving to Charlotte, finding a parking place in the remote parking (which doesn't open until 5) almost impossible to catch the 6 am flight. Last we flew out of Columbia. Left at 7 am and arrived in Vegas at 11:30 am. This was great. The trip in October we will leave Charlotte at 4:30 pm and arrive in Vegas at 8:40 pm. It is not to our liking but the best we could do. The schedule has changed once and probably will change several more times so, who knows what will happen between now and then. The important thing is, arriving is good anytime the departing is what I always hate.
Even though it's not a nonstop, Frontier has a great flight out of Akron that leaves at a civilized hour and arrives in Vegas before noon. Since we rent a car, having a room ready isn't an issue and in fact can be a negotiating point with the desk.

For the start of the vacation, I prefer being at the airport early in the A.M. and getting there as soon as possible! Yes, there's always the chance your room isn't ready, which is a hassle; but it's more like having a full day of vacation as opposed to a half day. Also, I usually don't sleep much the night before a vacation as too psyched. And leaving, I prefer that to be late in the afternoon or early evening, so I can sleep in late and get to the airport without having to rush. - Gail

buff, I am with you. Like to arrive early and then sleep on the plan back. It is like a whole extra day in Vegas.
I am just happy to be flying to Vegas......Any time of the day. Coming from the east I do prefer a morning flight if I can get the non-stop that leaves at 8:45 we are there in time for lunch. This trip we are leaving at 4:48 PM and will arrive at 7:30 on July 4, in time to get to hotel and see some of the fireworks...
Holy crap, you bumped a 3 year old thread.

See ya in another 3 years Sbryan.
We generally take tha last non stop on Friday out of Austin. It can range from leaving here between 7 & 8 pm. Our rooms are usually comped so it's ok checking in late. I agree with Bassman, I like to wake up being on vacation. I prefer to take the mid day non stop, that way I can work a half day, but the nonstop mid day flight sometimes leaves too early. Next month we leave on Friday @ 2:45.

We take the first flight home so we can rescue the pooch from the puppy spa before they close.
Early morning flights both ways for us. Leave out of Savannah around 7:30 a.m. and get into LV at 11:15 a.m. Leave out of LV 6:00 a.m. and get home around 4:30-6:00 p.m.
