F1 Extortion

I read in the LVA news that F1 is charging $50,000 to venues for this race. What authority has that power to do this? A "building" is in a place where they want to have their race and now they want to charge the "building" because it's there? What if the "building" says " pound sand, we were here first and YOU are restricting our business"? F1 thinks it has a King's Septor in its hands and is making a lot of demands.

Fully agree; this entire debacle is all about money changing hands among the county / city government and the corporate F1 machine, with the Vegas consumers on the bottom rung. It's ridiculous on so many fronts. OTOH, I'm not an F1 fan.

To me, this whole F1 race scenario is asinine. I believe that I and millions of others couldn't care less about people racing around a track. This, to me, is nothing but a money grab. I am sure that some will disagree with what I say here - well, it is your money to spend as you see fit. Hopefully you will get your perceived money's worth.

Oh my.  Business is a money grab.  Get over it.

I don't care about it, surely won't be anywhere near it, but I like hearing about something new and crazy going on in Vegas.  Each to his own.  Is there anything that isn't labeled a "money grab" in Las Vegas?   Go somewhere else, don't go to LVA website for information.  OF COURSE everything is a money grab in Vegas.  You think you come to leave with pocketsfull of cash?  Like thinking of going to Disney World but can't stand the fact that kids will be around.   I figure the F1 people wouldn't be putting it on were it not profitable.  Those paying gazillions of dollars for front row seats, good for them if it floats their boats.

Full story

they actually reduced it to 50k from 1.5k per seat.

im not an expert but I think the way it works is there is a 10 foot "wall" of advertising billboard that goes along the sides of the track.   That wall blocks the view of any business along the way.    If you want the wall removed in front of your business so you can set up viewing seats then you pay the 50k.    And then you charge for seats.   Otherwise you get the wall.    I would think second story venues might not have to pay the fee?    I dunno.

heard this ---if an advertising wall gets put up in front of a business that does not pay the freight, that business will put up a 2nd wall of their own in front of it and use it like the old outdoor movies to transmit the race using their own devices-------sounds like a good way around the penalty------lets see if this will come to pass----am certain there would be counter-measures

A business owner the other day told me everyone is greedy these days. He doesn't like it, but he said to survive, he needs to be greedty too.

Vegas is dead too so many "regulars" and booming for the 20's something bitcoin and real estate crowd especially from Canada.

Not an F1 fan and won't be in Vegas during that time, thankfully.  Will be interesting to see how Downtown and Off Strip properties do in regards to occupancy and play, as people may want to keep away from the strip if they aren't into the racing and horrible traffic.

Count me in that group of regulars that aren't going.   I decided to try Reno for my fall gambling trip that historically has been in Vegas for the last 2 decades.    My last two trips to Vegas have been an exercise in disappointment.
