Greed and MGM. What I learned from the fight weekend in Vegas

Just returned form a quick trip to Vegas for the fight weekend (5 nights Ballys 4/29-5/4). Some observations that I thought that I would share with folks who may /may not see fit to go to Vegas during the next "fight weekend".

I have been in Vegas during spring break. This crowd had TWICE as many kids on the strip from Thursday to Sunday as any Spring break week. The crowds on the strip were Chaotic!

Table mins went up Friday Morning (at ballys ) to $15.00 (Craps), but stayed at $10.00 at Paris Friday morning. All in all the crowds were much nicer at Paris than Ballys, Flamingo or Luxor.
And as far the the CC Pay per view crap!  What a joke. $150.00 min to watch it at any Mlife property. And they all sold out in 4 hrs. My son and his girl wanted to really watch it so the wife and I really searched hard to find a suitable alternative. Called BUFFALO Wild Wings and they said $200.00 a head. Called Blondies and $200.00 a head. Against my wishes the kids went to Blondies Saturday morning to buy their $200.00 wristbands for the fight only to find out that the price had gone up to $300.00 ( F--- that). So they returned empty handed when I told them "no way". The killer is that Blondies never even showed the fight Saturday night so if you did buy a wristband you had to go back to them and get your $$ back (Good luck). Variuos other places also took $$ in advance from folks to see the fight only to have it Cancelled the night of the fight. The faithful Vegas goer got robbed by some seedy enterprises that were looking to make quick buck knowing that they could NOT get the rights to show the fight or that it was a long shot at best!!

Ditto for the "City Lights bar and Grill" in Vegas. $40  head and or $300 for a table of 6 with a "Bottle". You could purchase tickets online. Fortunately we didn't because....you guessed it. It too got cancelled. Good luck getting your $300.00 back from J and J promotions for that 1. Luckily I was able to reach my brother in law Darryl who ordered the fight and showed it at his home in North Vegas. All 4 of us went over there to watch it. Ate laughed and had a good old time.

As far as rooms prices. What would have cost you and average of 190 a night from Weds to Friday dropped down to 50/60  a night by the time the fight week rolled around. All the hotels had jacked upped their prices in anticipation of a BIG payday only to have tons of empty rooms because people found cheaper alternatives off the strip or just didn't come because of the fight ticket prices and /or CC prices.

The "beauty" of the whole weekend was that Friday night we went out to Sante Fe casino. The crowd was the same as always. Quiet, $5.00 paigow and craps..and excellent VP. I was soooo glad to see that at 1 of my old favorites!!  1 things is for sure. Next tiime may - beater oops I mean mayweather is fighting in vegas..I won't be there! Or at least I wont be staying on the strip.

Too make matters worse we now hear that Pacman wasnt at 100%.

Oh BTW I made C.E.T. DIAMOND on this trip also!!!!
Sorry our paths did not cross this trip Champster. Between staying at the Riviera and downtown, I spent zero time on the Strip except to catch Harrah's shuttle to the Rio and back. I had originally planned on staying until Sunday, but when I found out about the fight I changed my plans and bailed out on Friday night. Too much craziness for me. My double Hendricks and tonic at the airport was delicious by the way...oh, and congratulations on making diamond.

Thanks Lar!!!
Champ, thank you for "the rest of the story".

I enjoyed several episodes of Investigation Discovery during that fight time, in my jammies, my quilt and pillow, snacks, etc. LOL

Congrats on making Diamond!

Greed hasn't stopped. Rock in Rio is this weekend. Yesterday i did a Limo pick up at Westgate (Formerly the Las Vegas Hilton) and they were charging $50 to park there. Even if you are staying there, you have to give them $50 (cash only) and then it is refunded at check-in.

Same thing years ago when I was there for a Tyson fight. Thankfully I stayed off the strip. We had dinner at the Outback(by Rio--not there anymore), and the owner taped the fight at home and brought it in immediately after it was completed. Otherwise, it would have been prohibitively expensive. Total cost $0, but essentially tape delay. The fight lasted less than 1 round.
