High of 114??

I lived in Vegas for eight years 1995-2003, and it NEVER got that hot this early in the year. While the highs usually got over 100, it usually wasn't until August that the temps cracked 110. But now, the forecast high for Tuesday is 114! Jesus!

I can tell you that there's a huge qualitative difference between temps over 110 and "only" over 100. With the latter, you can still manage to go outside; as long as you avoid the heat of midday, you can get things done; and the nights are pleasant. But when it gets to be 114+ outside, there's so much raw power coming down from the sky that all you can do is hide from it. It becomes impossible to do anything at all outside, including going for a walk. Driving is hell--your car's interior when parked can get over 175 degrees, and yeah, you have a/c, but it often can't cope with the task, and at any rate, you have the brutal sun blasting its heat through your car windows, with glare in your eyes.

I would recommend staying away from Vegas this summer. You might say yeah, everything's air-conditioned, so, so what, but the truth is, you'll have many unpleasant moments where you can't avoid exposure. Just taking your bags out to the valet, you'll be drenched in sweat as soon as you step outside. And of course, you can't use the swimming pool--the water will be over 90 degrees and the patio around the pool will be like a pizza oven. And if you're navigating the airport...wait in line outside for a taxi for 20 minutes and you'll start to regret your decision to come here.

Good thing that Deep State Chinese fake news liberal hoax global warming isn't real, or this would be something serious.

Record Temps for June 13th through the 19th    112 deg to 116 deg all happened in 1940   and June 25-26  115 and 114 happened in 1970    June 27-77  114 deg    Just Sayn'

Right. But those highs were aberrations (two out of the past eighty years). These recent temps, conversely, just might be the new normal. The real issue is not so much that record highs are being set as that those records are being broken every successive year.

This factors into the hard decisions Vegas is going to have to make regarding its dwindling water supply.

I was in Vegas the other week during the "heat wave". The only thing I could think of observing the people laying out at the pool was, "bacon being fried in a skillet".

Portland expected to be 115 today, might be time to move back to Vegas Kevin, just to cool off.

Well, the difference is: in Vegas, 115 degrees is an everyday occurence, while it's the record here (by eight degrees!). We also have this ocean thingy that sends us cool air, so we're going to drop down to the mid-90s tomorrow and keep cooling off after that.

Goddamn Deep State fake news liberal hoax, they'll do anything to keep this climate change nonsense afloat, even heat up Portland!
