Hotel Taxes On Resort Fees

Hey Group,

I want people to understand that how much the Hotel Tax is actually depends on where you are staying -- whether it's the Strip or Downtown LV. It differs between The Strip and Downtown. At least as far as I know, room tax rate on the Strip is 11% and room tax rate in Downtown is 13%.

Isn't the Resort Fee taxed separately from the Hotel tax? And possibly a separate tax rate?

I don't think so due to the posting in the LVA "Coupons" Message Board about the LVA-Plaza BOGO Deal that the Plaza's resort fee is $16.95 which is comprised of the $15 Fee Plus 13% Hotel Tax ($1.95).

Christ! Pretty soon we'll have to save a monthes pay just for resort fees and taxes.especially all the taxes on rental cars.

My next stay in February at Aria, I noticed in their confirmation email, the resort fee and tax come to more than the room itself.

I find it hard to believe that rational people will pay the ripoff resort fees.

I don't really care what the resort fee is. I just look at the total cost for the room (including the resort fee) and if it is within the range of what I'd pay for a room at a particular resort/hotel, then I book it. If it's higher than what I want to pay I look somewhere else. Of course, comped rooms are preferable!

That being said, if there is a different tax rate between downtown and the strip, what about outlying casinos? (Stations, Boyd, etc.) Is that another tax rate?

I want to stay on the strip so I don't worry about resort fees. We always paid for the internet before resort fees came around anyway so I just accept that is the internet fee.
