How about Reno instead?

Reno is cheaper for sure.   If you are a Fremont St person in Vegas I think Reno is an ok alternative...just maybe not for a whole week.    A rental car would give you the fredom to explore the area more.   I'm told Carson City is currently experiencing a boom in real estate and economic activity.     That could make for a fun day trip.

That depends on what you're looking for and whether you'll have transportation.

My favorite places to stay are the Atlantis and the Peppermill. However, you need a car if you want to go to other casinos--they're both pretty isolated, on the south side of town (and not all that near each other). Grand Sierra has the same problem. That said, any of these properties has enough room and variety to keep you occupied for a long weekend, at least.

Downtown, it's pretty much limited to "The Row"--the three properties acquired by CET. There's not much else worthwhile. However, those three properties, which are physically connected, provide a great variety of games, restaurants, etc. If I were staying at one of the three, I would pick the Silver Legacy, then the Eldorado, and Circus Circus would be fifteenth.

IMHO the nicest rooms are at the Peppermill. The best restaurants are at the Eldorado. The best gambling is at the Atlantis. So hopping around is best IMHO. By the time you arrive, maybe rental cars will be cheap again?

The info on VpFree2 is a bit dated but mostly accurate. Atlantis, Peppermill, and Eldorado have a number of games over 99.5%. Grand Sierra has a few.

Kevin,

Thanks a lot for the GREAT information!  Sounds like when I go I will have to rent a car and spend 2 or 3 days in both Reno and Tahoe.  Will have to be next year sometime when rental cars costs hopefully come back down to earth.

About 20 years ago, among other things I did, I used to bring our salesforce out to various locations for 4 days for sales meetings.  Tahoe, Las Vegas, and Santa Fe were their favorite places, each for different reasons.   At that time, for a Sales meeting, four days was about enough in Tahoe for the sightseeing we did after the sales presentations.  I wasn't sure how much it had changed since then.

i will date myself and say that I stayed in the Harvey's tower right after it was first built.   I also was lucky  enough to be able to fly directly from Denver into the Lake Tahoe airport.  Landing with the tops of the mountains above the plane was litterally breathtaking.   Apparently you can't fly into the Lake Tahoe airport commercially anymore.

Looking forward to going out there again and hopefully they VP and Blackjack situation will remain unchanged.

Thanks again!

Only if you can't fly Southwest from your point of origin.

I can get there on Southwest. I just remember I have a friend I used to work with, his children, first his son, then his daughter, both moved to Tahoe and I would look into airfares for him because he was going through some things that made me want to take something, albeit small, off of his plate. I just remember at least at that time it was high to get to Reno whether he was stopping in Vegas, or I think Sacramento, or any of the other stops that were available.
