in a pickle and need some advice

My daughters wedding is april 16th and I have pushed my wallet right to the edge of exploding! They want to go to Las Vegas for her honeymoon (after hearing me talk about it for years)
Amy (my daughter) is very frugel bordering on cheap. I had been pushing her to stay at a high end place (Ballagio) but she has been shying away from them because of the prices.
I always figured I would up grade what ever they chose to ensure they had a great honeymoon, but the economy finally finished the company that I work for (22 years) and I was told recently I would be laid off soon, so I will finish paying for the wedding, but regret that they are on there own for the honeymoon.
So, here is our great plan. They are still going to Las Vegas, but will only do two nights at a nicer place and then move for the rest of the trip at a more modest hotel. The two nights at a nicer place has been budgeted at "NO MORE" than $400 for a Saturday and Sunday night.
I basically need the best hotel room that I can get, on the strip, for $400.
I know I can go online and check things out, but I keep seeing things like "that casino is nice, just dont get the south tower" or something like that on these boards and this is too important to screw up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would suggest The Palazzo. They currently have their "basic" room - which is described as a suite & is lovely - listed at about $370 for those two nights. Check it out on the website (I tried copy & paste but it didn't work) - I can't imagine anyone not liking The Palazzo. Definitely a nice start to the honeymoon!

I also think that is not a bad price considering it is a Saturday arrival. Friday/Saturday are typically the most expensive nights at any hotel. So, although the Saturday is high, the Sunday is more managable.

I hope they have a great time & many years of joy & happiness together!
There is a lot to be said for starting a trip with your least fancey hotel and moving up. That way you would do the weekend for less and do the top hotel at weekday rates.

Also, if you have any track record at all in a nice place a call to a host might get you a great deal.
You're much too kind. Is paying for the honeymoon the new tradition? I'm very slow to catch on about such things.

I haven't looked, but depending on the amount of wiggle room you have on the $400 figure, you might be able to stay anywhere - even the Bellagio. If it ended up being, say, $500, would that be a deal breaker? You don't have to tell us that. But most places should be less than $400 for their base rooms for those nights. You might even get an upgrade or two at some of them within that budget (and some places will probably need them).

P.S. I'll be in town April 16-18. Maybe I'll see them around.

Have to agree with this.

They could do a Saturday and Sunday somewhere like the Tropicana's newly renovated Deluxe Room with City View for $229.98 total, and then a few nights at the Venetian or Palazzo for $149.00 per night.

Have you considered trying to bid for a room on Priceline? They feature 5 star rooms on the north Strip (Venetian, Palazzo, and Wynn). The highest prices that I'd seen for a weekend was about $150/nt. There's a technique to bidding to ensure that you get virtually the lowest price available and at the same time, ensure that you're not stuck in an area that you don't prefer. PM me if you want some details.

In the interim, you can lock into one of the places previously suggested with the caveat that you can cancel that reservation if you can score a better deal on Priceline.

How many additional nights are they staying beyond the weekend and what were they planning to budget for those nights? Once again, Priceline is a real money saver; especially midweek. Perhaps with the money that they can/will save for the midweek accommodations, they might have more to spend for the weekend at the higher end place?

I also have to agree with this. Start at the least fancy hotel and move up. They will have something to really look forward to then. We did this once staying at the Bellagio first and then moving to another hotel. The Bellagio was so nice it was tough to move on to another place. I would book the nicer hotel second.
Agree with what has been said. Start at the lower hotel and move up. I made the mistake of taking my wife to the Bellagio and then the Sahara (several years ago, it wasn't as bad as now). It was not a good ending.
I've stayed at the Bellagio, the Wynn and the Palazzo. They are all nice but the Palazzo is the nicest (IMHO).
I would do something like first part at Luxor or even Bally's (if you have to stay on the strip) and then the last two nights at the top end place. You might find that you can spend 3 weekday nights there for the price of a Saturday and Sunday. If you don't have to stay on the strip, Rio has some good prices right now.
Hope they have a great time.
