Is air travel to LV getting more uncomfortable?

More expensive, no. But more uncomfortable, probably. American, for instance has just announced that it's going to pack more seats onto most of its planes.

American Airlines plans to add more seats to two of its workhorse jets, a move that could eventually mean less legroom for customers flying in coach.

The carrier says it will add a still-to-be-determined number of seats to its Boeing 737 and MD-80 jets, which account for about two-thirds of its current fleet.

Yes, I've travelled from Victoria to Las Vegas through Seattle on Alaska. The flight leaves most mornings at 6:00 a.m. and arrives about 10:40 a.m. after the transfer. Nice and early!! I save my airmiles and usually get 2 or 3 free flights per year.
Unless you're flying first class, I've never considered flying to be comfortable. This is especially true if your flight is more than a couple of hours. As to cost, I think we're all a little spoiled. I remember flying for business before dereg at $160 RT to LA from Seattle in the early 70s. I bought my first house in '71 for just shy of 20K. My ex sold it 20 years later for about $100K. Gas was about 25 cents a gallon and you could walk out of the supermarket with a bag full of groceries for about ten bucks! Do I look forward to airfare increases? Of course not, but I also realize that all things being equal, my RT to Vegas should cost about a grand onstead of $300.

Good Luck,

Well stated, Ric. Since the majority of us can't afford first class travel, we just get used to not being real comfortable while flying. Drmilled has a very good point - lots of bigger people means less room for the rest of us. However, airfare cost has been amazingly steady overall, at least with Southwest - I just booked an October round trip flight to Vegas for exactly the same fare as one 20 years ago. Now that is much better than a kick in the ass...

I miss the late, great Midwest Airlines. Non stop flights to Vegas. The whole plane was 2 across wide leather seats. Unlimited free wine/champagne. Great meals served on china, steak, shrimp, etc... all included. Then after dinner they baked chocolate chip cookies on board and the fresh baked, warm cookies were dessert. All for the same price other airlines charged for coach. They operated for over 20 years but alas when the economy tanked a few years ago they couldn't hold on. Frontier bought them, gutted them and they are no more.
Many airlines are now using thinner, lighter weight materials for their seat cushions and back rests. You might not feel the difference on a two hour flight but it definitely feel it on longer segments.

It is all about weight when flying.

Man, I'm TOTALLY with you!! I really miss Midwest!!
Jet Blue and Virgin are great options out of NY. Non-stop, extra wide seats with nice leg room. I'm 6'3, 350 pounds and have no issues with the seats.
JetBlue now flies into the new terminal in Vegas so no more monorail to deal with.
Being 5' 10" and 165 pounds, I have a hard time understanding anyone weighing 350 pounds. How does one go about becoming that heavy and why would they do that to themselves? I just don't understand it.
