For many people the breaking point has already occurred. It has for me and the strip. I’m good for a couple meals and few shows on the strip but almost all of my time and money are spent elsewhere. Tuscany, Ellis island, and el Cortez are my main spots.
Rarely see the strip on my trips--mostly Silverton, Suncoast, Rampart, Ecan, and an occasional Station.
Yes , they are pricing themselves out for the being a cheap regular vacation spot. Actually it is still almost OK compared to other spots but us old timers are a little spoiled with the past. ( Ok greedy). I do understand the business world and Vegas is the same. Let's make as much $$ as we can. SO, I now go to Vegas 1 time a year versus 4-7. And I still like a bargain.
I prefer Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast Santa Fe most of the time but depending who is on our trip, Harrahs, Bally's or Flamingo could be the choice. The strip cost dictates where. Harrahs usually wins. Not the best but at times reasonable.
Resort fees, paid parking and so on. the paid parking has got to be hurting the restaurants on the stip as while you eat out and pay an additional fee just to park to eat at the overpriced restaurants or shop in their malls? I have free offers from Cos, Harrahs and others but the hassle of the above is making the local casinos look more appealling all the time.
Council Bluffs and Sioux City may just work fine for me for now.
I go only 1 to 2 times a year but almost never stay on the strip. Rental car at off strip casinos instead of McCarren, Use the MRB book, take the few comps I get and still do okay. Use hotel shuttles when I go to strip or find the places I can park for free and walk a bit-the exercise is good for me. I guess it is a matter of if you want to make it work but I still think it is a bargain compared to lots of other places I visit.
I think that the locals casinos try to kepp their price increases ans fees more in line with trying to make a profit than the strip casinos. Most dinner buffets on the strip are $30-$40+. I like the Bacchanal Bufet but it is $57.00. You can usually get a good diinner where you live for a cheaper price that that. My brother ate at the Bellagio Buffet and did not think it was that good. By the way valet parking is $21 for 0 to 2 hours there. There are enough tourists who will pay for everthing because they only go once a year, or rich people, as well as people on a business trip who can write off the expenses.
Middle class people who are concerned abour cost and go several times a year will not vist as often if at all. One way to figure it it that less people are going, but they can make more off those who come.
I got a decent deal on ar rental car recently $148.00 including tax for one week thru Dollar.
Resort fees are the worst.
