Why, yes, there is. It manifests itself as the douchebag who stands at the enrance to the club and handpicks the people from the line he deems "cool enough" to enter. Clubs that do this should be boycotted with extreme prejudice....even if you are one of the cool kids.
But to the question at hand - bottle service isn't necessarily that pretentious. You're basically paying $300 for a $20 bottle of vodka. Crazy, huh? Not really. If you ordered enough individual drinks from the bar to empty that same bottle you're probably going to end up in that same price neighborhood. So, if your group is big enough and everyone can agree on the alcohol and mixers its not a bad choice. You avoid the line at the bar....or having to wait for your waitress.
I defintiely concede there are people (douchebags) who have small groups and just get the bottle service to show off because they think it impresses people (other douchebags). And thats ok. Those douchebags need to stick together.
