If you're having second thoughts about dragging yourself to the Great Gouge in the Desert and being nickel-and-dimed to death while standing in line for everything, choking down that $24 club sandwich, handing a $20 bill to the parking attendant, playing $25 minimum BJ with shit rules, etc. etc. etc....consider a great alternative: Reno.
Cheaper, nicer, and better. Vegas absolutely sucks rocks right now.
I've heard Reno is pretty nice even has some great neighborhoods. I can imagine it being cooler and easy access to Lake Tahoe. Good advice.

The difference is that Reno existed long before gambling was legalized, so while Vegas is still essentially a bunch of trailer parks surrounding the casinos, Reno is an actual city.
The drive up to Tahoe is spectacular and only takes about 75 minutes. You can circle the lake this time of year. Gorgeous.
That aside, Reno has cheaper rooms, better gambling, and reasonably priced food. You also don't encounter the National Nun-Beating Festival or the Squid Races or any other crap that clogs the roads and triples room rates.
And while in Vegas, birds are bursting into flame in midair, it's in the 80s in Reno. Actual pool weather, which a Vegas summer is not.
They have much more player friendly games: lower table limits, better VP schedules, looser slots. Sparks is even better than Reno according to American Casino Guide.
I had fun on my trip there...but it definitely doesnt have the wide range of entertainment options Vegas has. If you can put your head down and gamble for 7 days Reno is great. I was exhausted with that by the end of day 4.
Tahoe is nice but freakishly expensive. Gas was over $6/gallon when I was there.
