Landry's Select Club experiences?

I just signed up for the Landry's card...mostly because I'll be staying at the GN in my birthday month and would like to take advantage of the VIP check-in and a chance at a free upgrade.

I've read mixed reviews on whether or not people were actually able to get a free room upgrade so your experiences on that would be greatly appreciated.

I'd also like to know whether or not the credit on the card can be used for alcohol in California and/or Nevada. It says in the terms it isn't available in all states but I was unable to find which states are excluded from alcohol purchase.

Thanks!
I used it twice at the Nugget in Las Vegas, but they only let you use VIP checkin if you booked directly with the Nugget, so If you booked through a third party they will not upgrade you or let you use vip.
Also I used my credit that came with the card right at The Chart House inside the Nugget. Make sure you tell them you are a member when making the room reservation.
I've already booked directly through the GN. I plan on calling them to let them know that I am a member as soon as I receive the card. My trip isn't until May so there hopefully shouldn't be any issues with that.

I plan on doing the same and using the credit for The Chart House (along with the bonus birthday month $25). Were you able to use your credit to cover alcohol as well or only your meal? My guess is that if it was only $25 your meal(s) would have been above and beyond the $25 so even if you could use it for alcohol there wasn't any of the credit left.

Appreciate your response
We were told we could not use the credit for alcohol while at the GN in Laughlin. Not sure if the same rules apply in Vegas, but I would assume it would be a state-wide company policy. Best to ask before you order. Good luck with getting a room upgrade! The rules state that if they have one available, they will upgrade you one level from what you reserved. Have fun!

The 1st time I used it I must have booked directly thru the nuggets web site (not sure), when I got there the usual long line at the check in area was reasonable and I had no idea where the VIP check in was so I used the regular check in line.

Check in was going smooth and when I flashed the landrys card and asked for an up grade, the check in lady seemed confused and disappeared behind a wall (to check with a supervisor?). She came back a few minutes later and up graded me to a jr suite in the rush tower-quite possibly the best hotel room I have ever stayed in!(sweet)

The 2nd time however!!!!

I spent 9 hours traveling from the east coast to vegas and looked like a train wreck. Collered shirt, shorts, sneakers, messy airplane travel hair, etc

I got to the normal check in and it was at least a 45 minute wait in front of me so I found out where VIP check in was (behind the chocholate store) and went in.

I stood behind the proverbial 65 year old high roller, sports jacket, etc while he checked in to 'yes sir, no sir, very good sir", then my turn....the snot behind the counter in a clear loud voice says " I cannot up grade you unless you buy directly thru our web site "and" tell them about having a landrys card when your buying the room", and in a voice loud enough for everyone to hear outside the VIP check in area, she says "I also am not supposed to check you in at the VIP counter if you didnt go thru our web site, but I will this time, please go to the regular check in next time (repeated twice in case it didnt get thru the first time!)

I guess the moral of the story is if its used correctly you can do well with a landrys card, if its not done right they beat the crap out of you at check in (then they repeat the process when you hit the casino floor!)

Good luck weggie
Well my room is already booked directly and without using any other promotional rate or discount...so I'm good there. I just need my card to arrive so I can call and make sure they know I'm a club member prior to my arrival.

The consensus seems to be that clerks at the VIP check-in aren't very friendly/polite

The Landry card fine print also says something to the effect of "up grades subject to availability" so if you go out on a busy convention week....forget it (at least dont get your hopes up too high)

I have stayed at the Golden Nugget 4 or 5 times and never had any problems with a check in person in the regular check in area, just this one time with miss hoity toyty in the V.I.P area.

The check in line itself at the nugget, on the other hand, always seems to be 40 people deep and is no fun!

Last August (our usual trip) I had booked via the website. Called to make certain they knew it was a Landry's Select booking. I am also a Private Arrangements member (old days) and did not want to have my stay collect those points, as I was hopeful for the free upgrade. Did not get the free upgrade, but did use the VIP check-in. Very polite people there, but, alas no upgrade. I used the $25.00 in Vic and Anthony's (we like steak.)
Do you know if you can use the card to get priority seating at the cafe at the GN? I know we can't use our credit there but was hoping to avoid any wait if we decided to eat there
