Las Vegas 1/2 Marathon

My dear friends Mashley and her husband Doug are interested in entering the Las Vegas 1/2 Marathon for next December. They are thinking the entry fee is a little high ($110) and wonder if anyone knows any way of getting a discount? Ooh--I see now that the entry fee is even higher and goes up daily!
Any runners out there have any hot tips on this?
I know it sounds steep, but to me the value of running down the strip is worth it. I don't know how to score a discount nowadays, I registered early and it was "cheaper".

The race starts at 5pm this year and it will be getting dark early. I prefer the morning race and it is a fun, fast, flat race.

To me, it was an excuse to go back to Vegas and stay in shape. I am sure with it being an evening race, it will even be more fun and festive as ever. Think lots of running Elvi, prob. more drunk running Elvi this time

The benefits of a later race:
- the hotels close to the start are more expensive, starts in front of Mandalay Bay

- if the race isn't early in the morning, you have plenty of time and options to get to the start. They may save a lot of money on the hotel somewhere further away (I am getting a CET comp), thus making up for the steep price of the race

- last year the post race concert was Bret Michaels. I bet this year it will be something bigger/better, but he was fun.

Connie, you should run or walk it too! There are lots of walkers I hear Sionow is doing the race too! I am already signed up, maybe we can have an LVA group. (I am slow, maybe just a hello at the start line, lol)

onnie, why don't you run/walk it too?
I ran last year in Vegas and really enjoyed the thrill of running up the strip. There were lots of Elvi costumed runners and a number of people getting married or renewing their vows during the run. I just signed up again this year so I can run the Strip at night with all of the lights on. It is a truly flat course and you basically went up the strip and then a small loop east of the old downtown area, then back to Mandalay Bay. I encourage you to try it as well.
Wow....$110!?!?!?

I did the full marathon with a group in 2007 and I don't recall it being more than $45 or $50....maybe my memory is failing me.

If you get a LVA group to enter, I'll do it. I need something to keep me out of restaurants and back on the street

Over the years, large-city marathons have become very expensive. There's really no way around it.
Kind of a supply-demand situation, along with costs associated with shutting a portion of the city down for a few hours.
Half marathons are even more of a rip-off than the full. You're only running half the course, but paying close to same price.
I haven't ran a marathon since 2004, mainly because of escalating entry fees, logistics, etc.
However, this late afternoon start intrigues me and I did early sign-up for the full Vegas marathon.
