Las Vegas mask mandate dropped

Some folks will disagree with this move, but I like it.

Sisolak has been under enormous pressure, and called every name in the book up to and including receiving death threats, to force him to remove pandemic restrictions. I've been glad to see that he hasn't caved to the people screaming at him.

Vegas, due to its huge visitation numbers from all over the world, should be the absolute last place in the US to drop mask mandates. It's still too soon. But money, as in casinos, talks. They evidently feel that the massively increased profit they've recently realized still isn't what they deserve.

Yes. Benefits. Like having a governor who has taken the pandemic seriously, unlike, say, Abbott or DeSantis. The people who live and work in Vegas should be grateful.

All of America and Americans are suffering because of that.

Anyone that think a filthy cloth masks ever helped was following the wrong data and science. So glad the mandate is gone. Dumbest thing ever....wear a mask if it comforts you. Personal choice. Smoking in casinos is far worse for health than not wearing a cloth mask.

The number of deaths, percentage wise for Florida and Nevada (based on total deaths and the population for each state)  are almost identical - while the number of deaths, percentage wise for Texas is lower than either Florida and Nevada. This info can be found on Google. So apparently all three states and governors have had almost the exact number of deaths percentage wise (total deaths and population for each state). Apparently the responses of DeSantis, Abbott and Sisolak have had similar results.

The primary factor in viral transmission is population density. Nevada's population is 90% urban; plus, Vegas (and Reno, to a smaller extent) receives millions of international visitors every year. So the challenges have been greater in Nevada than in Texas or Florida; those states have large urban centers but also extensive rural populations.

It's kind of pointless to play politics with this. The difference between Sisolak's and Abbott's and DeSantis's approach to the pandemic was clear. If Sisolak had gone all Abbott and DeSantis with this instead of taking it deadly seriously, as he did, Vegas would have been devastated by the virus.

It's sad that defiance of pandemic measures became some kind of measure of party loyalty. Nevada benefited from having a governor who listened to the science, even though he was excoriated for doing so by the greedy casino corporations that resented having their bottom lines affected. (And of course, now, they're trying to get back all the money they feel they deserved.)

The results have proven to be the same for all 3 states - that is the bottom line.

The results may have been "the same" (that isn't actually correct), but the conditions weren't the same at all. Sisolak had a much more difficult road to navigate than Abbott or DeSantis. Nevada was much more susceptible to the virus than Texas or Florida because of its high urban concentration and the nature of the tourist industry.

If Sisolak had acted like Abbott or DeSantis, there would have been far more cases and deaths in Nevada. His greater attention to his responsibilities saved thousands of lives. Not that anyone's giving him credit for that.

But of course, if you mix politics into it, then I'm sure you might believe that mask mandates don't do anything because one side made that their message.
