Actually, numbers don't speak for themselves--because they can't speak. Any statistic is meaningless without context.
But I have the feeling I'm arguing against belief here, and to so argue is futile.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary ( Google ), if something speaks for itself, it is clear and needs no further explaination.
Perhaps. But most things don't "speak for themselves"--such as, statistics without context. Because they can't speak. And they don't have selves.

I don't know what YOU "always do," but personal attacks are against LVA rules and belong in the Kitchen Sink at the very least.
