Long hauling from airport: article

Like this is a surprise? I am curious to see how the TA (Taxi-cab Authority) will respond to this. I knew it was hight, but 25% of fares from the airport are considered being long-hauled. Wow... that's huge.
Asshole cabbies, do not tip when they do this. I always say take the city, every time!!!!!!
I had one try to do this to me last week and seemed ticked off when I called him out on it.

I have called them out too, The door opener at Caesars said report him, boy did he get out of there quick. Tip the good guys, that do not try this, good. They deserve it!
I actually had an experience in 1995 which entirely turned me off to taking cabs forever in LV.

I took a cab with a girlfriend from Plaza to Treasure Island late at night and the driver took the Freeway instead of going straight up Main Street and then to LV Blvd.

He then gave me some cockamaimie excuse for doing that and I was so ticked off, I gave him no tip.

At that time, I had no idea of reporting him to the Taxicab Authority, but if I had known about that then, I would have done it.

Also, there is an article in yesterday's (4/24/13) Los Angeles Times about this Longhauling and under the headline it says that Taxi fares to from the airport last year were $10 too much on average!

This really is rotten!

If you think you are being taken for a ride.... suggest to the cabbie that the TA meet us at the destination. Watch how things change in a hurry.

On a similar topic.... if one was to take a cab from the airport to Gold Coast which is the best (i.e. - economical) method? Would the Swenson/Paradise option be better than the freeway? I also wonder if somebody boarded a cab from the car rental place if it would be just the wisest route would be to jump on the freeway (of course, avoiding Las Vegas Blvd) and then to the Gold Coast.
I could be wrong but I think it's okay to take the freeway to the Gold Coast, or even downtown for that matter, as long as they take Tropicana to the freeway and not the tunnel. When you come out of that tunnel it seems like you are a half mile or more south of Mandalay Bay.

Taking surface streets from the airport to downtown may be a buck or two cheaper than the freeway, but it will also be slower. I'd rather pay a couple extra bucks and get there faster.

If I am incorrect about anything I stated here, someone please correct me. This is good information to know.
