LVRJ--Burglaries not uncommon in hotel rooms

What is amazing about the one example was that they were sleeping IN
the room at the time!!!! Sounds like the extra door deadbolt etc was
not used. . . . .

Hotel Burglaries Not Uncommon
I wonder what the actual statisitics are. I'm thinking its probably very uncommon to have someone enter your room and steal.

But regardless, you should always use the in room safe.
Hmmm, I usually use the dead bolt but I don't usually lock the safe if I'm in the room. Guess I'll start doing so ...

Fredo
What is amazing is the victim knew the deadbold was broken. Who would stay in a hotel room with broken locks?

Well I have to say in defense of broken locks. If it is your first night and you stagger up to your room late , exhausted and perhaps buzzed who is going to call the front desk and wait 2 hours or for maintenance to arrive and fix the problem?

I had a CET room first night after traveling many days, It was my birthday and was toasted. When I went to brush my teeth my sink was backed up. Called housekeeping they called came and called maintenance waited and waited they couldn't fix it and I had to repack go back down to the front desk and get a new room it took several hours. If I had it to do over I would have brushed my teeth in the tub and called it a night. So I can see chain lock broken oh well call in the a.m. not a big deal.

I think Vegas is pretty safe but criminals exist every where. I also think most of the theft in hotel rooms are inside jobs, or some stupid drunk ahem "escort" theft, not only in Vegas but most tourist vacation spots.

Good point. Now I'll check the locks first thing upon checking in.

I agree most hotel room thefts we hear/read about involve some component of carelessness, multiple room mates coming and going, etc. Once I left our room safe open, quite a bit of money was in it (dumb careless). Nearly fainted when I walked in and saw the safe door hanging open. Nothing was missing, so I knew it was my mistake. If the contents had been missing, I would have sworn it was all the hotel's fault somehow.
I always hope I'll hit a big enough jackpot that I have to use the Cashier safes.
On a couple of visits I was curious to see rooms at different properties. Ballys diamond floor and Golden Nuggets Rush Tower. 1 pm in the afternoon when housekeeping was in full swing , I got on an elevator and just walked around. I was able to walk into rooms that were occupied, and saw wallets, jewelry
etc left out in plain site. Maids had the doors wide open to rooms they were not in. Walking through a wide open door is not exactly breaking and entering.

Amazing how any white, middle aged, clean cut , reasonaly well dressed man can walk around and not be questioned. (No, I didn't take anything)

Don't be complacent about your own security.
