Less Bang for More Bucks
Sumner Adelson (relatively new owner of the LVRJ newspaper) and owner of the Venetian/Palazzo is now blocking access to LVRJ articles/reviews/stories etc. unless you pay for an online subscription. For those of us who occasionally use this such as before taking a trip, this will substantially reduce the reliable free sources of info about what is happening in LV.
For example Westie has for many, many years posted compiled links (in one post) to newly published restaurant reviews from a variety of sources. One of those regularly featured sources was from the LVRJ. Those links from LVRJ will now be unreadable (without paying for a subscription). Additionally there were daily gossip columns discussing worthwhile current entertainment and reviews of such. For those from out of town that like to keep abreast occasionally what is going on it makes no economic sense to pay for a subscription, but without it you will be limited to a couple of articles per month and then further the articles from the paper become unreadable unless you pay the man.
I might subscribe as it isn't a lot but once they get you hooked they likely will raise the subscription fee sooner rather than later.
I guess like everything else in Vegas that used to be free or cheap (parking, no resort fees, rooms, food, and other comps, as well Video Poker at potential 100% payback, low stakes 3/2 blackjack, single zero roulette, etc.) those days are behind us.
Everything now has become an independent scrutinized profit center with no more loss leaders available or even breakeven items now being eliminated. The (the Advantage players (AP) and the advantaged visitors (the AVs) are finding it now nearly almost impossible to find anything to their advantage any longer
Between this occurring and legalized gambling now including sports betting becoming more prevalent nearly everywhere, LV is becoming continually less compelling than it used to be. I'm not done yet, but it does not provide the bang for the buck that it used to provide and it provides "less bang for more bucks" each year.
