march madness

coming out on 3/15, looking for info on the best sports book to watch/bet the tournament. staying at the flamingo does the $20 tip work there
I am coming out on March 13 and staying for a week. Go Tarheels!. Also staying at the Flamingo. Got comped a Go Luxury View room for 5 nights. Might try and tip to get the Neopolitan Suite. I like Caesars Palace sports book , right across the street, because it is wide open with plenty of viewing space. It is one of the few that is not enclosed in a room. which makes it nice. Also, it is right in the middle of the action, so you can actually sit and play video poker while watching the games. Mirage also has a good sportsbook, as does the Wynn. I also like casinos that have televisions all over the gambling areas, so you can pretty much sit anywhere and watch a game during March Madness. Caesars also has this.
what are the exact days of march madness? do the sports places have specials like they do during football?
March Madness is three weekends of NCAA tournament basketball to determine the National Championship. For purists (who hate the stupid play-in games), the real March Madness starts on Thursday, March 15. That first weekend there are 48 games on Thur,Fri,Sat,Sun, with the field being reduced from 64 teams, to the sweet 16. The next weekend it is reduced from 16 to the final 4, and then the last weekend is the Semifinals, and Championship on Monday night. If you like to bet on games, then the first weekend is for you, and for my money is the most fun weekend, with everyone screaming and yelling for their favorite team, or for their biggest "action" team. It is heaven for college basketball fans like me, plus the bonus that you are in Vegas, what more could you want. Go Tar Heels!

I was in Vegas 2 years ago for March Madness and I'm making a return trip this year - cant wait! Its a great time to be in Vegas if you like sports betting. Like Marcus said - I think the best weekend is the first weekend - March 15 - 18th. I dont think there were any special "viewing rooms" like there are during the super bowl but I do remember there being some special betting stations set up in random spots at some of the casinos. For instance - I got a comped room at Bally's and we did a lot of our watching and betting in the sports book there. However right before you take the mall/walkway path to Paris there was a booth set up just for sports betting - but they didn't have any extra TV's set up. Agree with Marcus' comment - Ceasars is a nice place to watch. Get up early if you want a seat IN the sports book.

Actually, several casino's have special viewing parties. A couple of years ago the Wynn had a big party hosted by Billy Packer and Bobby Knight, pretty sweet.
My fantasy football league always goes to Vegas for "spring practice" the first weekend of MM. Seems like it changes every year, but several casinos always set aside a ballroom for extra viewing/drinking/wagering room. Downtown I've seen Nugget, Fremont, Binion's (years ago), and Plaza participate. More recently I've seen Orleans, P-Ho (HUGE area), IP and Bally's set up additional room. Drink tickets get harder to come by every year, but at some places (like IP) just make a $2 race bet or play video poker slowly and you'll get your fill.

HOO-HOO-HOO-HOOSIERS!

WE'RE BACK!
The IP hasnt had their ball room setup for a couple years. I wish they would bring it back.
Thanks Marcus for the info on the viewing rooms. I actually remember now that Ballys had a a few extra tables and TV's set up but they were right by the sports book area. Plus, once we got comfy at Ballys we didnt' wander to far to look for another spot.... drinks, bets, games.. and pizza (right by Bally's sports book)!!! Why leave???
