Nevada wants your unused TITO

Today's LVRJ covers a new way for the state to receive more money from the casinos. As with other states "unclaimed" property must revert to the state. There is a move to classify unclaimed TITO's as "unclaimed" property. They are talking about unclaimed tickets amounting to $50,000,000!!!!!!!!!!

Sue,
You are really slowing down!
I think all "resort fees" should go into the Nevada education fund.

The casinos can't be happy about that -- that's "free money" that they're going to be missing out on.

Here's some more food for thought:

- Will this affect the willingness or ability of casinos to accept and cash expired tickets?

- How is this different then when a $100 bill or chip is found on the floor, or coins are left in the tray of a machine? The casinos have always claimed that money like that belongs to the casino. This bill makes it sound like it should have been turned over to the state as unclaimed property.
It's surprising that Nevada's existing lost-property statutes apparently don't already apply.

Why do the casinos think this lost money is different than, say, money in an abandoned checking account, or life insurance proceeds where the beneficiary can't be found?
Because checking accounts and life insurance policies have identifying information attached to them.

Personally, I think the casinos should have to cash a forgotten TITO no matter how old it is (no expiration date at all).

I also think that if I choose to leave some credits on a machine or leave a TITO in a coin tray for someone else that money should be able to be used by the discoverer. It should not be casino property.

If I accidentally drop cash on the floor it would be nice if someone turned it in, but if not, that money should also belong to the discoverer, not the casino.
Ditto what Mare just said.

And while were on the subject........I was just thinking about all the Tiny * Tito*s
I have in my file folders from past trips.........gotta be close to a Mil right there?

Well, we're talking about lost property here, property possessed by a custodian who has been unable to find the owner. That there may be some identifiable information on property does not mean that its sufficient to locate the owner.

Dang, I was almost convinced justmare was serious about never reading my posts.

Now, seriously, I'm done with you. In fact, you're so useless to me that I'm actually going to make sure I can't see anything you post anymore.
. . .
You're on my banned list . . . .

That's one leaky banned list lol.
The banned list and the ignore feature are two different things. You didn't know that?

Putting someone on ignore totally screws up the boards. You can click on the last page and there will be nothing on it because all of the ignored posters posts come out. It bugged me too much to deal with the boards that way.

The banned list means you cannot send me a PM.
