New Strip Mega-Resort will not have a casino

The Majestic

Its going to be on the North End of the strip - near the convention center.     Scheduled to open next year.

Its a resort revolving around fitness, nutrition, and general wellness activities.

I dunno about that.     Seems like it would be better suited for Sedona.

"...fitness, nutrition, and general wellness activities."

I do all that BEFORE a Vegas trip, so I can eat, drink, and sit at machines and tables all day with no guilt.  LOL.

I agree. Most people don't go to Vegas to get healthy.lol.

I like that approach. In Vegas, many aspects of the market are saturated. Would another glitzy, overpriced Strip hotel/casino succeed? Probaby not, at least not if it lacked any way to distinguish itself from the crowd. For instance, Circus Circus appeals to people who like Pepto-Bismol (the color).

Most people don't go to Vegas to "get healthy," but quite a few people don't go there to reduce their lifespan, either (though statistics do show that a day spent in Vegas takes away approximately 3.9 days from your life expectancy). For some, healthy eating options, opportunities for excercise and fitness, etc. might be just what they want. It's a potential niche market.

There are many such niche market opportunities that have been successfully exploited in the past. For instance, the California caters almost exclusively to Hawaiians. In the locals market, Dotty's caters to chain-smoking middle-aged women who bite people.

That's some "statistics", Kevin.  From what credible research study was that determined?  I should be dead by now.

I've been living in Las Vegas almost thirty years. Doing the math from Kevin's "statistics", my lifespan has been reduced by 117 years!!

I would imagine a place like that would appeal to someone in town for a week or more. But the average visitor in town for 2 or 3 days will be gambling and drinking their asses off and not care about health and nutrition.

Candy, Don, what you might not realize is that most of the people you see in Vegas locals' casinos are already dead--zombies. Just watch how they shamble.

And I forgot to mention that every royal flush adds back about a month to your life expectancy. So if you've hit enough of them, you might be ahead overall, and if you reach a certain bankroll point, you can effectively live forever, like a vampire. Just stay out of the sunlight--good advice for Vegas anyway.

hmmm. I've hit 15 royal flushes playing 25 cent VP. I'd think 4OAKS would have a positive impact too.

I stayed at the Hard Rock in vegas a few years ago.   Between the casino and the parking garage is the gym.   There's a big glass wall along the hallway that allows you to look in as you walk by.   I think the idea is so you can check out the hot chicks on the treadmills when you walk by.

Since I always rent a car I made the trip down that hallway probably 10 times a day for a week.  I think I saw a total of three people in the gym during that whole period.
