Non Stop Flights from Smaller Airports... Would this work for you?

That's a nice thought, but largely impractical.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays have long been the cheaper days to fly. Mondays and fridays are major days for business travel, which also makes the most money for airlines because those guys are paying the heavy freight. Schedules are not designed fior the convenience of the leisure traveler. There's also the whole hub and spoke system of all major carriers. They aren't going to purposefully route you from a smaller airport (say, Dayton) at a better price/time when, say, Delta operates a major hub from Cincinnati. Which (no coincidence) happens to have some of the most expensive fares in the entire country.

Yes, Air Tran did have a nonstop out of Flint and that was the flight I took several times to Vegas. It left around 1:00 in the afternoon so I could work half a day and then drive to Flint and take off for Vegas. I really miss that flight.
This month, weggie44 gets his/her wish. Southwest has had a nonstop from Manchester, NH to Vegas and back for several years. But they are discontinuing them at mid-month. We thought they were great. Six hours to Vegas and five hours back (tail wind) and the only weather we had to worry about was in Manchester. It gets windy in Vegas but a foot of snow or a tornado has never been a problem. So soon we'll fly from Manchester to Baltimore and then nonstop to Vegas. Coming back we'll be stopping in Chicago. Weather aside, not having a nonstop adds two hours to our flight time.

The flights from Manchester were always full and I haven't seen a return flight with many unsold seats in about three years. Southwest told us they're "constantly evaluating our routes." I think what they mean is that they know people are going to go to Vegas but by killing the nonstop they can get more people on other flights which may not be full most of the time. I know the airlines need to make money but I don't care! I just want to get to Vegas quickly.
Nashville used to have many Vegas non-stop flights every day. Not so many anymore. So to heck with Southwest, if I have to change planes, I'll fly on an airline where at least I have an assigned seat.

Southwest offers a non-stop from Norfolk to Vegas that we take every time. Love it!
Hey Now!
Those Norfolk flights are a great deal!
We are flying out of Richmond, the wife likes to stretch her legs in Hot 'Lanta on the way....

Southwest has non stops from Hartford, CT. Only once a day, but maybe you can stop there instead of passing by and continuing onto Baltimore. That could be an option for you.

I love love love non stops. I hate stopping anywhere. If I can avoid a stop I will! Stops never save money for anyone...flights are generally more expensive and then once you exit the plane, sometimes you don't have enough time to "run" across the airport...give me a NON STOP anytime.

I only wish we had more options from CT, but for me, JFK also has non stops, just not with southwest.

Couldn't disagree more.

Stops and plane changes are crucial to aviation. Without them, you'd never be able to fly, say, from Sacramento to Bangor or Lansing to Mobile, there's just not enough demand for routes like that to be flown nonstop. But with changes at hubs like O'Hare or Salt Lake or Philadelphia, unsupportable nonstop itineraries flourish.

Ever price a private jet? Without stops, they'd provide the only option for all but the most popular routes.

Stops save everyone money.
