I was briefly considering coming to Vegas on the 22nd. Apparently, this weekend, there are a lot of things going on: a pot convention, a football game, the Thirtieth Annual Nun-Beating Festival, etc. So my casino host-thing told me that my comped rooms wouldn't be available on these "blackout dates." I asked her how much if I just paid for them, and she told me, "$11,789 per night, three-night minimum, plus resort fee, plus tax, plus tax on the resort fee, plus tax tax, plus a random $100 surcharge for no good reason other than we can get away with it." So I guess that trip's out of the question.
Out of curiosity, I checked to see how much Motel 6 wanted for a night's stay this weekend.
$296.99.
Two hundred and ninety-six dollars and ninety-nine cents!
TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY-SIX DOLLARS AND NINETY-NINE CENTS!!! FOR A ROOM AT MOTEL 6!!!
I hasten to add that this price is for the conveniently located Tropicana Ave. property. If you're willing to go out to Boulder Highway, the price plummets to $251.99. These prices are with the 10% AARP discount. It's $329.99 at the Trop location without it.
Has it ever, at any time, anywhere in the universe, cost $300+ to stay at a Motel 6? Ain't Vegas wonderful?
