Now, this is just silly

I was briefly considering coming to Vegas on the 22nd. Apparently, this weekend, there are a lot of things going on: a pot convention, a football game, the Thirtieth Annual Nun-Beating Festival, etc. So my casino host-thing told me that my comped rooms wouldn't be available on these "blackout dates." I asked her how much if I just paid for them, and she told me, "$11,789 per night, three-night minimum, plus resort fee, plus tax, plus tax on the resort fee, plus tax tax, plus a random $100 surcharge for no good reason other than we can get away with it." So I guess that trip's out of the question.

Out of curiosity, I checked to see how much Motel 6 wanted for a night's stay this weekend.

$296.99.

Two hundred and ninety-six dollars and ninety-nine cents!

TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY-SIX DOLLARS AND NINETY-NINE CENTS!!! FOR A ROOM AT MOTEL 6!!!

I hasten to add that this price is for the conveniently located Tropicana Ave. property. If you're willing to go out to Boulder Highway, the price plummets to $251.99. These prices are with the 10% AARP discount. It's $329.99 at the Trop location without it.

Has it ever, at any time, anywhere in the universe, cost $300+ to stay at a Motel 6? Ain't Vegas wonderful?

Kevin......Just out of curiosity I checked your pricing on Expedia.....and.....ARE PEOPLE CRAZY..... Who the hell would pay $300 a night for a Motel 6 room.....LOL.

I sure some people are looking for last minute deals but not in Las Vegas this weekend for sure.

I suppose this goes to show that you have to plan your trip months in advance to get the best rates otherwise you are going to get EXTRA screwed.....LOL

I find it amusing when a seasoned long time Vegas visitor vents about room pricing for a last minute trip to Vegas. Travelers across the globe know that the pricing for last minute travel is always much more expensive and that planning in advance allows one to secure the cheapest rates.

Ummm......news flash here.  Something I thought the smartest person in the world might know.  Quarter video poker players that play FPDW don't get comped.

Someone doesn't understand supply and demand.

Actually...what you don't seem to know at all...is that I've gotten twelve free nights from Arizona Charlie's Decatur and six free nights from Arizona Charlie's Boulder--and the only game I played there was their 100%+ .25 video poker.

You also don't seem to know that the personal attack shit is supposed to be confined to the Sink.

A motel raising its rates by 600% is unprecedented. In the past, I've seen weekend rates at that property--a few days in advance--as high as $129. Never over $300.

What you find amusing is irrelevant.

Every time there's an egregious ripoff, someone is certain to say, sagely, "supply and demand."

I suppose this does imply that there are people stupid and/or desperate enough to pay six times as much as normal for a Motel 6 room, but this is a level of gouge I haven't seen before. Kind of blows the mind. I'm not inclined to dismiss it as just another manifestation of our wonderful capitalist economy.

And yeah, there's a practical aspect to it, too. It means that Vegas prices for busy weekends are going to be stratospheric in the near future.

Where did I personally attack you?  I called you the world's smartest person above.  Correction, a non-dump casino will not comp you for quarter video poker.  Maybe if you pump in 10 hours of NSUD a day you may have a chance at the ones that have it.

So you are saying AZ Charlies you couldn't even get into that weekend for comps or heavily reduced room rates?  That is crazy if so.  Town must have a crap load of events going on if so.

I would like to know just where the 13th Annual Nun - Beating Contest is taking place. Also, if the casino host thing quoted you $11,789 per night (plus resort fee and taxes), well then I don't see where $269.99 per night at Motel 6 as being out of line - actually their rate seems to be a bargain.
