Now's the time!

It's the end of Inferno Season. Vegas has cooled down, and instead of being hot enough to melt lead (I exaggerate only slightly), it's just pleasantly warm, and cool at night. It happened fairly suddenly, as it always does here--one day, it was 20 degrees cooler than the day before, as if someone had thrown a switch.

This pleasant state of affairs will continue until the onset of Vegas winter, which does exist. It's only six weeks long, and runs approximately from the end of the Castrated Cowboy Festival to the fourth week of January. During that time, Vegas gets rained on, sometimes snowed on, and it's often actually cold. But it's bargain time in mid-December, if you're so inclined.

So if you've been thinking about a quick getaway to Vegas (or a slow one), the next several weeks would be a good time to do it. If you're a sports fan, it's hog heaven, as you have the World Series, the start of the NBA season, of course NFL games in full swing, and now! what Lucy of "Peanuts" calls "hockey ball." Don't plan on being able to actually get a ticket to a VGK game, but there are hundreds of places to watch the games.

And in response to those who have groused about the "negativity" of my posts, I'd just like to add that there are adorable, fluffy white bunnies everywhere, everybody is smiling, and nobody is drunk. And while I'm still getting honked at in traffic, I was given the finger only eight times this week. So everyone here is in a good mood!

You miscounted, I have given you two.

You don't count. For anything.

GO!

The weather will be better and just cool at night.

Yeah ,there are Halloween celebrations, but you will not freeze or get sun stroke.

Just choose your vacation time on the local weather.

You will be in a desert,so just plan that: DRY.

Lucky you!

October is just fine.So is March. These times in Nevada are Truly GOLDEN.

Try August and you will be fools.

A brutal hangover with a sunburn is maybe the worst condition imaginable,on your vacation.

OK,in jail may not be so good.

ER room, hand cuffed to a gurney.

"Mr. Mac Murphy, you have had a busy day".

"Well,it was one hell of a ride."

"May I go home,now?"

Back to Texas.

I think I was there when the temperature dropped this past week.    It was 90 degrees one day and then 60 the next.     Not sure I can handle the summers there.    It’s something I struggle with when deciding about Vegas as a retirement destination.

I think that Vegas isn't a very good retirement destination, because:

1. Housing prices are skyrocketing. It's no longer cheap or anything close to it, even compared to California.

2. It's not a community. It's a bunch of people who happen to live near one another. There is less social life, especially for seniors, than there is in other cities of comparable size, because: everybody goes to the casinos.

3. It's really hard to avoid paying the "casino tax." A LOT of the good deals for seniors have been snuffed out.

4. Traffic is approaching LA-esque levels.

5. And yeah, the summers are pretty brutal and pretty long, and will only get worse thanks to that liberal fake news Chinese hoax global warming. Vegas's temperatures have risen more since 1970 than any other city in the US.

6. The health care system here compares unfavorably to that of Bangladesh.

1. Housing prices are skyrocketing. -ZILLOW PREDICTS A 3% INCREASE; THAT ISN'T SKYROCKETING

2. It's not a community. It's a bunch of people who happen to live near one another. There is less social life, especially for seniors - YOU CAN SAY THAT ABOUT A LOT OF CITIES.  THERE ARE OVER 120 SHOWS AND MUSEUMS.  YOU CAN GO ONCE A WEEK & IT WOULD TAKE 3 YEARS BEFORE YOU SEE A SHOW AGAIN. YOU ALSO HAVE THE NHL & THE NFL AS WELL AS A TRIPLE A BASEBALL TEAM & VERY POSSIBLY A MLB TEAM.  THE NBA IS EXPLORING VEGAS.

3. It's really hard to avoid paying the "casino tax." A LOT of the good deals for seniors have been snuffed out. NOT REALLY

4. Traffic is approaching LA-esque levels. YOU HAVEN'T DRIVEN IN LA OR NYC IF YOU THINK THE TRAFFIC IS BAD IN VEGAS.  TRY DRIVING ON ROUTE 4 IN ORLANDO.

5. And yeah, the summers are pretty brutal and pretty long,  - WINTERS IN THE NORTH ARE ALSO VERY LONG, VERY COLD & VERY WET

6. The health care system here compares unfavorably to that of Bangladesh. WHILE NOT IN THE TOP 10, I SUSPECT MOST PEOPLE WOULD RATHER GO TO A VEGAS HOSPITAL THAN BANGLADESH

Careful Tom, your correct and truthful response to Mr. Know-It-All will get you on his berate and slander list.

Almost anywhere is cheap compared to some parts of California.  According to the Review Journal, people are still bailing from CA into LV.

1. He's already on that list.

2. Responses like "not really" don't qualify as "correct and truthful."

3. Saying that the weather/traffic/etc. is also bad in other places doesn't negate the statement that it is bad in Vegas.

4. "Zillow predicts" doesn't negate the statement, "housing prices are skyrocketing."

5. I can't help but notice that yet again, all you're able to do is attack me--you have no ideas of your own. Typical.
