The Plaza- on life support?

I spent 3 days last week on Fremont Street and wandered into the Plaza. (once)

The towers are completely shutdown and are not light at night, inside or out that I could see.

There is a sign where you go into the Casino saying they are doing a $300 million dollor renovation.

When you walk into the casino, there is a wooden construction wall blocking off 3/5's of the casino. There are no table games running. The bar outside lucky's sports book is shut down, the poker area has chairs piled in it.

The doors to the showroom where open and looks like the rat pack is still running, the sports book was open, and a couple of the fast food resturants were open (I did not check the Firefly). Bingo upstairs is gone (moved to the Vegas club)

Why would anyone play the few remaining slot machines they have up and running. What comps could you possibly earn by playing there? and I figure they have those machines set so tight, a jackpot wont be won until who knows when.

Does anyone know if they are actually rebuilding this casino or is it truely on life support?

Sounds like a good QOD question.
Yes, a lot of the Plaza is being redone (especially the hotel rooms). They are supposed to be back up and completely running this coming September (2011). I know that the Plaza got some kind of great deal on the furniture from the not to be opened Fountainbleu (sp?).

As for machines at Plaza, hopefully 9/6 Jacks Or Better is still there. Otherwise, I know that comps are good to be used in restaurants as well as the gift shop and they can also be used at Vegas Club since they are connected by the same Slot Club. As far as I know, you usually can get up to about $20 a day in comps (depending on your play) but that comps do expire after 48 hours of no play -- although I think that points are good as long as there is not more than I think a year or so between plays.

As far as I know, the Rat Pack show is still running (it was one of the things that they kept going). It would surprise me if they close down Firefly (as far as I know, that is also not closing -- but that should be looked into).

I was also there this past week and seen the signs picturing what the remodeled rooms would look like. I went one step further and into the South elevator, picked a floor at random and walked down the hallway peering into some rooms, they were all open and gutted out with the old and waiting for the new to come in. Funny thing though, downstairs in a sheetrocked off section of the main casino they had a door with a sign posted on it for " team members only" bring in your Plaza ID and you can buy any of the remaining alcohol they have left. Seemed funny to me why they would do this if they werent at some time shortly closing all operations until remodel complete, or second theory, employee's can buy Alcohol during Holiday periods as a perk?

Once the remodel is complete, will the ice macines on each floor actually function, or will you still have to find a floor with working machines? Will the showers really drain, or will you still be up to your ankles in water when you finish?

What are the chances of a real buffet?

Enquiring minds, well, really don't care that much
