Pre F1 visit experiences

We anticipated a Vegas F1 clusterfork ( logistics, etc.) and weren't dissappointed. We skirted around the edges of the F1 infrastructure and insanity in a cheap rental car by traveling on Tropicana, Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and the northern end cut-through links around Resorts World (Genting Way, etc.). I had no idea of the fandom associated with F1 but viewed it first-hand at a special event at the Venetian on Thursday..the line stretched out the exterior door front to deep within the bowels of the Grand Canal Shops. My grandson has an interest in these cars and racing so he enjoyed all those pre-race events during his first Vegas visit. He had a big smile on his face most of the time except when he was guffawing at the Strip resort facades and their associated scale. We ate good on past earned comps and there wasn't much time for gambling other than the 3 hours I was able to escape to the Palms for some cheap 3:2 blackjack.

The logistics of getting around during this short trip was insane but we had aniticipated that pre-trip. Despite all that, the experience of a good time for me, my son, and grandson superceded the pains in the ass aspects. It was a good trip that we simply made the best of. I suspect this might become an annual trail of tears. *l*

Glad you all enjoyed it. As I said earlier, the possibility existed of the trip being about as much fun as a visit to the dentist while wearing a hair shirt.

I just feel sorry for the locals whose lives were disrupted. If you worked on or near the Strip, or had to cross the Strip to get to work, your commute time was increased by at least an hour. I think that the beeeg corporations that made billions from the F-U should be forced to pay every Vegas resident $1000. Sorta like the Alaska oil dividend.

True..the locals disruptions were / are atrocious..despite the related attempts to recoup their losses via the courts.

Since those were essentially attempts to sue the casinos, you can describe them as somewhere between "quixotic" and "hopeless." Sorta like trying to bring a civil suit against Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

The Powers That Be in Vegas decided long ago that the extra baksheesh flowing into the casino coffers from the F1 was more than worth the temporary ruination(s) of locals' lives. As has been the case for decades when it's been the casinos or the people. Vegas is still the ultimate company town.

We wanted to hit Resorts World , Aira and bellagio last week but passed beause of F1.  Although traffic was not bad on monday on industrial

Brent, yes it indeed was a teranspo crap shoot. We accessed Cosmo by hitting Harmon on the west side of I-15; one definitely had to plan to skirt around even two-three days before the actual race. My grandson just attended the practice sessions on Thursday ( concert and other activities included(. That was expensive enough, let alone the costs for the race itself which we did not attend. Again, all the negatives were tolerable because of the bonding thing between grandpa, son, and grandson. He's so interested I expect us to make this an annual pilgrimmage.

So glad you had a great trip !
