Put your Vegas plans on hold

Governor Sisolak, observing the recent alarming spike in Covid cases in Las Vegas, said he is seriously considering a return to a higher level of restrictions if the numbers don't get better very soon. He said he'll decide within two weeks, maybe sooner.

So this could mean one of two things for your upcoming Vegas jaunt:

1. Everything will be shut down again, or at least restricted so much that it won't be worth going (IMHO, the latter state of affairs already exists).

2. It will be that much more dangerous to be among crowds of people, many of whom (still!!!) aren't wearing masks and do NOT practice social distancing. This one depends on how much you care about your personal safety and that of your family, I guess.

I would imagine that flight and hotel bookings are easier to cancel than they were before, but I would recommend just pulling the plug now. It ain't worth it.

I think the hand writing has been on the wall since LV reopened. Pictures in TRs show people not distancing and some without masks. The opening of Circa showed this for sure. The other day I saw a picture from the airport showing a long line for boarding a SW flight, again no distancing. The next day I read an article where SW says they think they are doing a good job!

Saying you are doing the right things doesn't mean you are. We better start getting this right or it won't end for years.

Good Luck!

Yes it is worrying and Gov. Sisolak has made it fairly clear what he is going to do in two weeks (if things do not improve)......but my 5 day trip is planned for the Nov 15th and I know if I delay it then I can expect that Vegas will probably be shut down in two weeks to a level where it would not be worth going until some time in 2021.

I'll put together a TR when I get back.

Keep safe

We were booked for the 25th over the Thanksgiving weekend and canceled today. Not taking a chance they shut things down again. We get bouncers so we'll try again down the road

I'm going in the second week of December.    Normally it's dead then anyway...and with the rodeo cancelled it's going to be exceptionally dead....and with Covid spiking it's going to be crazy exceptionally dead.      In short, I expect to have Fremont St to myself....unless I'm dead.

Gee, maybe the table minimums will go down to the 10 dollar level.

What was the term for the dead time? Bowling alley?

OK ...due to the recent shooting at MGM and the increase of Covid in Clark County I decided to cancel my trip for the 15th Nov at the last minute.

Southwest say they will give me a credit for the airfare cost for up to 12 months so I'll plan for a new trip in 2021.

I am upset & frustrated but saftey first I suppose... As I was going on my own I just felt with the recent events in Vegas I would be looking over my shoulder every evening if I wanted to venture on the strip and that is not what I consider a fun trip.

I don't blame rett98 for your decision.  I have a different take on it.

Our newspaper has a section "Police Beat", every day.  It gives small writeups of arrests, robberies, shootings, stabbings.  They don't make national news, of course, usually.  But who would visit a city with those things happening?  Well, they happen in every city, every day.  Vegas news makes the big news outlets.  Every single item feels personal if we have ever in our life visited, plan to visit soon, or have a trip on the books.  It can feel like being in the center of the dart board for a moment.  But my take is that there is a very, very low chance of ME being hurt in that way.  Yes, it can happen, but the odds are in my favor.

Everyone has to decide for themselves, but I'm going, if the plane flies.  Good things are starting to happen (slowly, some shows, eateries opening, almost all hotels open) and will get better if the airlines and businesses will hold on, and people who want to come to Vegas come on and spend their money.

I feel more protected in an airport, on an airplane, and inside a casino where there are people who are charged with protecting their customers.  Keep your eyes and ears open, walk away at any sign of trouble.

Heck, 25 years ago I was gambling late at night in Harrah's.  Little did I know that at the other end of the casino a hold up was taking place (at the cage).  Guns and all.  Nobody hurt, thankfully.  I'm still here.

VEGAS STRONG!!!

It isn't the recent violence, which I agree has been overblown. Vegas, in addition to being a deranged adult Disneyland, is also a large city. Of course there's occasional violence.

The real reason to avoid Vegas in the near future is the threat of greater restrictions. Of course, any reasonable person might reflect on the reasons for those measures and wonder whether traveling to a place where there are large gatherings of people is such a swell idea right now.

My current equation is less fun + more danger = no, thanks. If discounts and bargains were added back into the equation, that might prove tempting. But I haven't seen any, which baffles me.
