Question About LV's Bad Water -- Today's News 1/31/11

After reading the information from the article link that is provided in the "Today's News" section from 1/31/11 about Las Vegas being in the "worst water" category, I was wondering whether the water was bad only for drinking or if it is bad as well for bathing in it?

We have been in Las Vegas 5 years now and have no problem with the water. We have a LifeSource® water system in the house which filters all of the water. We do use bottled water for drinking, but cooking, bathing, brushing teeth, etc. with the tap water is fine. Pizza, Bread, Bagels etc do not taste as good as they do on the East Coast and they say it is because of the water. It's a trade-off, but having 60º temps in January as compared to 2 feet of snow make it an easy trade-off.

I was meaning less about how locals are handling the issue, but more about if there is something that visitors to LV (espcially those staying in hotels) could or should do that might help things?

I always drink bottled water while in Vegas. I would never consider filling a glass from the bathroom sink and drinking it. I would think that when you order a coffee in a restaurant, or a scotch and water at the bar, that this water is filtered. But then again, who knows. If anybody knows the answer to this, please chime in.

As far as showering or taking a bath, I dont think you need to worry about that. The water can't be that toxic that it would harm you upon contact.

Beside Vegas, I also vacation alot in Florida and the Ozarks. I don't drink their tap water either. Better safe than sorry. Nothing worse than getting sick while on vacation.

i drink tap water in vegas, in louisiana, in florida, and right outta the well in kenya. If the locals drink it and look ok, i drink it. I grew up drinking tennessee river water, halfway down the watershed known as the appalachians. I like to compare the flavor of 'hard' (untreated) waters when i stop in mom'n'pop places. The flavor i hate:chlorine. My kinfolk say they could tell the difference when flouride was added back in the fifties. I dunno about that. Good luck!

What was the problem with the water? Tastes OK to me. I'm sure it is not dangerous. What's the problem?

Tap water in desert cities tends to be very hard. I think the hotels use some type of filtration system or water softner as Vegas hotel tap water tastes better than City of Phoenix tap water.
I rarely drink tap water at home and in Vegas.

I drink too much water for all of it to be bottled so in Vegas I drink tap water.
Haven't died yet.
I will bring empty bottle back to the room and re-fill them w/ cold long running taap water- then leave them open for some time.
And refridgeration helps greatly but I'm fine with room temp too.

God knows I'm Diva enough w/o fussing about water.

I already NEED 4 to 5 pillows, a firm hard bed , coffeemaker and so so much more

I never drink tap water anywhere. LOL

The government keeps "discovering" untoward contents in water.

I saw on the news about a week or so ago they found some contaminate in the water supply in
Southern California that causes cancer.

I only drink Fiji water or Evian.

In Germany it's Gerolsteiner.

In Italy it's San Pellegrino. I drink that one here at times usually celebrating Italian Night
to keep my wife happy. LOL

My ice cubes at home in my bar fridge as well as my kitchen fridge go through a
special filtration system that I had installed.

I don't want to find out 20 years from now that a public water system is the cause
for 10,000,000 deaths.

My son follows in my footsteps.

However, my wife drinks from the tap, God bless her.
