Just got back from a weeks stay at the Plaza. For those of you who also watch the American Restoration TV show this may be of interest.
One of our side trips this was to the new "Ricks Restoration" location to see if we could see some of the stuff that they have re built and possibly see if we could spot any of the shows stars. Anyone who has watched the TV show Pawn Stars and then has gone to thier shows location in vegas knows that it is getting very tough to be there on a day when when of the shows starts are actually there, so we didnt have our hopes up too high to see any of this shows stars.
Thier new shop is located at 112 commerce street which is basically halfway between the Startosphere and Fremont street. We drove there from the Plaza in less than 3 minutes. It blends in with the surroundings and was not super easy to find. It also has a smallish sign.
when you drive down the drivway the 1st interesting thing we saw was the entire side of the building was painted to look like multiple older buildings. The signs on each building read "Ricks Barber shop" or Kellys general store, etc...kinda neat!
The next thing that we saw and got us excited was Ricks black, 48 Chevy pick up truck and Brettlys 64, Red Chevy. We got pictures of both. It also gave us hope that one or both of the cast members would be there.
When we walked in the enterance door, we walked into a gift shop that sells t-shirts, coffee cups etc. No one but us in the gift shop. While we were looking around in the gift shop a guy walks up to us very casually and asks if we want a tour of the shop? Sweeet!
On the tour of the shop we saw a lot of the things that the rebuilt on the show. The Pepboys statues, the golf cart they built for the "old man" on Pawn stars and stuff like that.
The best part was as you walked down the halls, you look thru these big picture windows and get to see "all" of the shows stars working! Every single one of them! We saw Rick and kelly (did not get to actually meet them but saw them), we saw both young boys (Tyler & Brettly), Coyboy, etc. We saw Ron (Ricks brother) a few times,I think he gets off on the celebrity status he has going, and once he even put his hand around my wifes shoulders to say hi.
During the tour, the tour guide said he would try to get a cast member to come out and meet us at the end of the tour. We ran into the gift shop and bought t-shirts and then ran back to the waiting area where the tour ended. "Tyler" came out and talked with us and autographed the T-shirts. His hands were dirty from working. He stayed only a few minutes but it was enough.
This was a great las Vegas side trip and I recommend going and taking the tour!
