Rip Off "Resort Fees"

“Look, your grace,” responded Sancho, “what you see over there aren’t giants—they’re windmills; and what seems to be arms are the sails that rotate the millstone when they’re turned by the wind.”

“It seems to me,” responded don Quixote, “that you aren’t well-versed in adventures—they are giants; and if you’re afraid, get away from here and start praying while I go into fierce and unequal battle with them.”

I like your analogy, but Don Quixote actually fought the windmill, so the most accurate analogy to David's post would be Don Quixote standing in front of a windmill and crying, vowing to never, ever fight it.

In a couple of months, we'll all be making decisions on whether to pay for things whose cost has increased by 30% or more. Complaining about it won't help, but not buying the most egregiously overpriced shit will. That category may pretty much include all of Vegas.

The bottom line is that resort fees do suck.

But they're easy to understand and factor into the overall cost of a stay. We now have two decades of experience with them.

But only flying Southwest?

Not buying a ticket to a show?

Never buying a car from a dealer?

Never dining in a group?

Thinking Amazon Prime is somehow costless?

Definitely getting some insight.

The cost to stay & park in Las Vegas just increased as the largest gaming company in Nevada, MGM Resorts International raised resort fees and parking fees (self and valet) across all of their properties. While there are still ways to avoid paying these fees, with player status and loyalty clubs offering the most ways to get free parking on the strip, discounts and eliminate extra fees altogether, the majority of visitors are likely to be impacted. Parking costs are now so standard that only Circus Circus, Treasure Island and Sahara still offer it at no charge. This is the second significant rate increase this calendar year and though the new prices are in line with the market average, this still feels like bad news for our tourists - https://www.facebook.com/reel/1623585548558787

I hope you learn something from this...Now if you want to do otherwise, fine, it is your money, that is until you give it all away for nothing of value.

Yes, when I resolve to become a lonely, miserly hermit it'll be good to have a life coach with real experience.

HaHaHaHaHa!  That's good - go ahead and give your money away... HaHaHaHaHa!

David,

Just because a good or service is marketed with multiple mandatory price components does not mean that the ultimate price is a "rip-off."

You don't tip?

You would never pay a plumber for parts AND labor?

Never used the dryer at a laundromat? Just the washer?

Never added cheese to a Whopper?

Your rule is absurd, and suggests a truly miserable life.

Judging me without knowing me and by your standards does not give you the right to suggest that -- "Your rule is absurd, and suggests a truly miserable life.". I am sure that your choices as to how you conduct your life suit you, and that is fine with me. Push on and live your life - and I will live mine.

It seems rather silly to rail against resort fees, when all that matters is the total cost of lodging. If I had a choice between $30 a night plus $39 resort fee, or $50 a night plus $29 resort fee, I would choose the former, even though the resort fee is higher.

Gonna give my two cents on this topic-

There are plenty of people that don't like resort fees, and that's totally fine.  That's their perrogative.  I don't care for them and my wife and I only stay at casinos (comped) that don't charge a resort fee, such as the Westgate and Tuscany.  There are some casinos that still charge resort fees, even for comped rooms. Have not paid for a room at a casino (with or without resort fee) for 15 years.  Have stayed in comped rooms at the Orleans pre-covid and didn't get charged a room fee, but haven't stayed there since, so not sure if they have a resort fee now.
