Room rates just upset guests?????

How do you build up a resort in Las vegas and have a resort fee tacked on. How many posters feel the resort fee should just go on to room rates and forget this fee......It looks like sooner than later the resort fee will catch the room rate charge.

The so-called "Resort fees" are nothing but an gouging rip off. As long as visitors are stupid enough to pay them, they will remain. Anyone advocating their "value" is a moron.

This was asked before.  There is some kind of difference in the profit, taxation, etc. between room charge and resort fee.  I can't recall the details.   Maybe time for a new QOD, the difference between a resort fee of $35 a night and a room rate increase of $35 a night and no resort fee.

My one warning from experience (long time ago):  Generally resort fees are not assessed when the room is comped.  BUT, if, for example, you pay for two nights and get the third night comped, you will be assessed the resort fee on all three nights, and there is nothing you can do about it.  And you pay a hefty tax on the resort fee all three nights, aside from the room tax.  Different type of tax.  My situation was in the reverse, paid for one night, comped the second and third.  Resort fee was levied on all three, despite my strong and repeated protests.  Grrr.

If there is a next time, I would book the 2 comped nights. Then, on a separate reservation I would book the third (consecutive) night. Casinos will let you use the same room for both reservations - at least they did for me.

I read a couple of Letters to the Editor in the Review-Journal this week (as an internet subscriber - I'm not a local) that mentioned resort fees.  A visitor was complaining about prices in general, and resort fees were one of his gripes.  A local responded, and he specifically said resort fees are a major component that is driving visitors away - along with general greed.  How long before the bean counters, Wall Street, etc. are told to shove it, and casinos bring some kind of reasonable pricing back??  Even a so-called "local" casino like Red Rock has a resort fee in the upper $30 price range.  Visitation is down thus far this year, and they wonder why.
