Safety issues

I have walked to Ellis Island from Hooter (don't judge me it was a free room). It is a safe walk lots of traffic on the road
If you were to take a cab from say Bally's to the Rio, the cost would be around $7 or less without tip. Walking from Bally's to Ellis Island is a brief hike and shouldn't be a problem. Walking from the strip to Hard Rock very late at night is something I would pass on. Again a taxi is not that expensive and will save you a lot of time. I totally agree with other posters about trying to navigate the freeway overpasses in order to get to the Rio or Orleans; especially at night. The area is not that all well lighted and drivers don't expect to see pedestrians in that area. There are already far to many car/pedestrian accidents in Vegas.
Thanks BIGLAR73 and dig_dougpt for your helpful replies.
Remember too that places seem closer then they are out there.

NO I would not walk from the strip to any of these casinos. As previously suggested take shuttle from Harrahs or Ballys to the Rio. Ellis Island area seems very seedy to me. Hard Rock much to far. Also not th best area to walk. Have heard Orleans has shuttle to strip, they give preference to Orleans hotel guest but if room will let others ride. FYI the Harrahs shuttle runs till 1pm.

I think that you mean 1AM (in the morning) for the Harrah's Group shuttle. At least according to the LVA Website's information about this shuttle, it says that it leaves from Rio every half hour between 10AM-1AM to go to Harrah's and Bally's and so I don't know when it leaves from Harrah's and Bally's to go back to Rio. That would need to be looked into. To get into the information, go to the "Shuttles & Car Rentals" link which is at the top of this page and then go to the Harrah's group link which is within the "Free Shuttles" link.

As for walking in that area, I don't know whether it is safe or not. How about asking Metro (the LV area police)?

We're back from Vegas...I originally planned on going to the Palms late night to use our coupon for the 24/7 cafe, as we have in the past but instead used it for the lunch buffet on a party of 4. They gladly accepted the coupon. And we used the RTC buses, with our 72 hour pass to get there...which worked like a charm.

We never went to the Hard Rock Casino but we did walk to Ellis Island...which is right behind the Palms. Definitely no safety issues at all...its very well lit and not even that far of a walk. We used our 3 rounds for 2 people coupons and enjoyed there steak dinner special. We ended up dropping a few hundred on slots collectively...probably nearly $400., but everyone said it was one of the highlights of our trip.
...oh, and their beer is awesome, the atmosphere was fun and I miss it...probably the most out of everything we did in Vegas. I would very highly recommend to everyone...the staff was very nice.
The walk from the corner of LV Blvd. and Flamingo to Rio/Palms/Gold Coast is a lot father than it looks. Plus, you've got five lanes of traffic goinng at least 45 mph going by. The pedestrian walkways over the expressway takes you out of your way to cross over.

It's a long enough walk from Rio to the Palsm! (especially in the summer months).

Cab it!

Its just my experience and dumb luck but, I am not a fan of Ellis Island area at night. I've been there and have seen too much weirdness go down. Love it during the day though. One of my favorite places in Vegas.
