Same old same old or new experiences during your Vegas planning?

We are creatures of habit and I noticed that we have started staying and doing almost the same thing on our Vegas trips. Don't get me wrong, we do these things because we enjoy staying, eating and playing at certain places.

However, on our last trip we had a great tip on a seafood restaurant at the Rio. It turned out to be a great meal and I wondered if I need to broaden our horizons a bit.

Of course much of this is driven by casinos sending us offers but I was curious how our fellow LVAers mix the familiar with the new in their planning.

Cheers,

Paul
We try to add something new on every trip. It could be as simple as trying a different tower at a place we have already stayed at or new place to hike, eat or spa to try. Yes, I have to admit much of our planning is decided by "free" offers. I do search travel zoo or other sites to add new/different activities to our plans. Even though we have been going to Vegas for almost 10 years we have yet to stay everywhere on the strip, but have knocked off everywhere but the D downtown.

Last trip we did something new - the Mirage buffet (myVegas). We've done it before, but it has been YEARS since we even set foot in the Mirage, due to resort fees. We liked the buffet so much that we went back a few days later (used LVA coupon) and ate it again! Then we took the tram to Treasure Island, and back! It's been at least 10 years since we did that. So exciting.

Next trip, we will not rent a car for the first half of the trip, due to sky-high prices. Instead we will take the airport shuttle, and the Harrah's-Sam's Town shuttle to get around.

Then for the second half of the trip we will pick up a car, the same-old, same-old Alamo Impala.

Another new thing we have been doing lately is eating dinner at Pasta Cucina at Sunset Station. When Pasta Cucina first replaced the beloved Capri Ristorante a few years ago, it was terrible. It was so bad, I even reported about it on this board. But now we have rediscovered PC - they now have a new menu and it is EXCELLENT! Really good!

So much fun doing new-old things. It's like being a kid again.

Havn't been to the Sunset in several years...we're GVR & RR fans. One of the reasons we stopped going was the Italian Rest...it was pretty bad. Thanks for the update, we'll try it next month.
Comps rule the trips, but we try to go to at least one new casino each trip...last month it was PH.

We do at least one new show and one new dining venue.
Other than that - stay downtown and play JoB most of the time - then waste some money trying out new slots.
I hate the zipline - thinking that the new one may be enough to drive us away from Fremont for ever. Well find out next week.

Occasionally I will try something different on my visits. During my last trip, I made it over to Huntridge Soda Fountain -- a very decent and reasonably priced Kosher Dairy/Vegetarian Restaurant (by the Southwest corner of Charleston and Maryland Parkway). And occasionally I will try to go do a coupon chase/run on the Strip (eventhough my LV home base is Downtown LV).

Some great ideas- thank you.

My wife and I go every September for the last seven years now. We do something new every year. We do our usual stuff we do every year also. Like last year we did the atomic testing museum. This year we're doing the neon sign museum. So each year we go we do something new(to us at least). Place the way things change in Vegas we only come out in September for a week every year so theirs always something new by then.
That's what I like about Vegas....even though I've managed to take 2 to 3 trips/year out there for the past several years, there is always something new to see and do.....new shows, new restaurants, casinos, etc. I do a lot of research before each trip and plan to see or do something that I have not done on previous trips. Vegas supplies me with an endless list of possibilities. 54 more days til the next trip.... YOU BETCHA !!!

Glasses can affect your vision; especially when they have been emptied several times....

Sounds like our schedule! One trip a year in September (except for last year when we were also able to make a trip in February) and always something a little different, mixed in among the repeats of things we really enjoy doing. Must-dos include meals at HHAGG and Metro Pizza and stays at the D and the Orleans. The new this year will include a stay at Sam's Town and meals at Monte Carlo and the Aria buffet, thanks to myVegas. It's getting tough to find the time to do everything we enjoy and still explore new things. Seems like the only solution is more trips, or longer ones.
