Silver Strikes

With the price of silver increasing does this mean Silver Strikes will be elimated in casinos? Seems to me that they are a money maker in most cases for casinos. Would it not be easier to lower the payout scale and keep the machines around. All but have daisappeared in casinos, Last trip Binions had them but last day we were there they were removed them. Four Queens still had a least two at that time.
When Silver gets high in price most casino's move them to the back room.

I submit that people dont play these machines so much for the Silver content of the coins but rather just as a means of collecting souveniers. Why not just make the coins out of aluminum and maintain their trade-in value of $10 at the cages?
IGT stopped supporting the Silver Strike machines about a year ago, if memory serves. Some casinos do still have the machines, but they'll be less and less as time goes on as replacement parts won't be available for them.

Casinos are still able to get the coins minted from various sources. It'll be interesting to see if any of the casinos shift to non-silver "Silver Strikes".
Some of the Strikes in the machines now are "Silver Clad" instead of ".999 Fine Silver". The .999 Silver Strikes are marked somewhere on the coin so you can tell the difference.

I was playing the Silver Strike machine at the Four Queens when I read that some SS were not, in fact, silver. They lost me as a future player.
I have no interest in aluminum tokens, even if they are silver clad.

I've read that they are money losers. Most people who win $10 in credits end up giving them back. Strikes flow out .

There are only four casinos in Vegas with Silver Strike machines. PH, Palms, Sams's Town and Four Queens.

It's too bad. They are great collectables.

Did Binion's get rid of them in the past few months?

We were there in January and Binions machines were gone. However in Nov I seen a couple empty the machine it seemed they were getting coins every 3 spins. I started to play and the lady showed me a purse full of them. She said this was her second time in filling the purse. Would have not believed this but you can't argue when you see as many coins as I seen. Went over to Four Queens and the same people played the same machines for at least three hours. We wnet to EC and had dinner played and returned and they were still playing they had the bins pretty full of the strikes at that time.
Since you folks seem knowledgeable about silver strikes,...

I have one silver strike; won it on a cruise, maybe 15 years ago. Is there any way to figure out if it has any value to collectors? It is a real strike, .999 silver. Thanks!
