South Point?

We are arriving this sunday and are staying at the Cortez. We are not planning on renting a car this trip but would like to make a run to the South Point since we have never been there as yet. What are our options transportation wise? We really don't want to cab it too much due to the expense involved.

That's a good question. If it were me, I would take the CAT bus (108 or 109??) to the airport. Then I would jump on the car rental facility bus and get off there. Something tells me there is a bus about a block away which will then take you near Southpoint.

Or.... you could just catch a cab from the car rental facility (there's always a bunch sitting there) and head over to Southpoint.

Otherwise: Take the Deuce or the SDX and connect at the South Strip Transfer Terminal. (Note: these routes stop frequently, thus it could take some time to get to your destination)
There is a bus that goes to Southpoint from the South Strip Transportation Center, as rkorbyl stated. I don't know the route number. I believe you also need to be sure you get on that route going in the right direction.

But between the time, confusion, and possible misrouting involved, you might be happier just catching a cab at Mandalay Bay, or Trop.

Then again, if you're going to catch a cab from the strip or from the rental car facility, you might be just as happy renting a car from downtown. I'm not sure what parking is like at Southpoint.
Sounds like a lot of trouble, maybe i should rethink this or just rent a car as you say. Thanks guys.

Parking is easy at South Point. My guess is that renting a car for the day is the way to go; a cab would be way too expensive.
I took the bus from downtown to South Point two years ago. I would only recommend it for serious public transit enthusiasts like myself, it's a long run, and the connections at the south strip now often require lengthy waits. I don't recommend it.

You might want to post future questions like this in the Transportation forum, issues like this are kicked around there all the time.
They do have a shuttle to & from the strip.

The South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa offers a scheduled shuttle to the Las Vegas Strip. Tickets must be purchased from your driver on board the vehicle using either cash or a credit card. The cost per passenger is $8 cash or $9.25 with a credit card and is valid for one round trip ride to the strip and back on the date of purchase only. Space in limited, based on availability. Please call 702-889-4242 for more information. The South Point Shuttle is proudly presented by Ritz Transportation.

Las Vegas Strip Shuttle Times
Depart South Point at the Valet Entrance Pick up at Treasure Island west of Valet Pick up at City Center/Aria at the Tour Bus Lobby Pick up at Excalibur at the Rotunda Entrance

This is listed on their website along with the times.

South Point is about as cookie-cutter as a casino gets. If you dont have a convenient means to get there its probably not worth it. Just go to the Orleans...its pretty much the same exact thing.
I took the shuttle from Aria and we sat forever there and then again at Excalibur. South Point was fine but as PJ says..... it ain't worth all that trouble from downtown.
I wouldn't recommend the Orleans instead of SP as SP isn't old, beat up and shabby yet. I would say that the Suncoast is more like SP and might be quicker by public transport. For the time and cost of coming and going, just rent a compact for the day. Personally I like SP and it's restaurants. They have some VP and decent table limits. Rent the car, go to SP and a little further down the way to the M. Make a day of it!

Good Luck!
