Time for a non-smoking casino?

Todays LVRJ had an article on the push to make all Nevada casinos non-smoking. Got me thinking that things have changed and I think Vegas 2011 could support a non-smoking casino. The most obvious choice to me would be for CET or MGM to make one of their properties non-smoking.

Please do not respond to this thread with the same pro-smoking or anti-smoking crap that has been clogging these boards since their inception. Just comments on whether or not you feel there are enough people who would support a non-smoking casino to make it a profitable move.

Coming from a X-smoker this will never happen. It has failed in the past and will not do much better today.

I really don't think it would work. People go to Vegas for choices in gaming, so I don't think there would be enough non-smokers to support a non-smoking casino. Although at first, the novelty of being able to go to a non-smoking casino may appeal to them, over time they would gravitate where they like to play, where there favorite games are, favorite servers, favorite dealers, etc regardless of where smokers were allowed. I'm also pretty sure no smokers would frequent the place. Markets have shown time and again that going non-smoking hurts revenues.

Another X smoker, but personally do not think the time has come. Would be interesting to see the results if a casino took a chance.

Monte Carlo could do it. It's really just one building in a huge MGM complex. I don't think all of that complex could go non-smoking, but I bet the Monte Carlo part could succeed without smokers

Would finally give that identity-less box something to promote.

I guess I just don't understand why there aren't designated smoking and non-smoking areas/tables in all casinos.

There are very few non-smoking areas with a great selection of games.

The new President of the Navajo Nation signed an executive order this week that would ban commercial tobacco in its casinos. The CEO of the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise says if the executive order to ban smoking in Navajo Nation casinos becomes effective, the Twin Arrows casino and resort planned near Flagstaff will not be built. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I think it's probably time for a non-smoking casino, even though the only time I smoke is when I gamble and I'd hate to see all of them go non-smoking because I enjoy doing it while playing VP (I know - it's selfish). But why not have something that allows for both smokers and non-smokers to have a place they feel comfortable in? (And I don't necessarily mean the same casino - a chain like MGM could have one or more of their casinos non-smoking and others smoking.) Eventually the non-smoking cadre will find some legal way to mandate the removal of smoking from all casinos, I think. Just don't know how long that will take. I do know that when we go to the Indian casinos here in MN that it seems like the vast majority of the people gambling also have a cigarette going.

I don't smoke. Never have, never will. I am allergic to smoke even... but I still play where I like to play. Even at my local Native American casinos, I find myself avoiding the non-smoking sections because of poor slots. They never, ever, put new slot machines in that section. It is the same old games that have been there for 3-5 years or more.

Smoke does not bother me when I am gabling, UNLESS someone sits down right next to me and lights up. 95% of the time, I leave. Also, particularly in Vegas, the casinos are so well-ventilated that the smoke seems to be less noticeable.

I would play at a non-smoking casino if I liked the casino, but the bottom line is I would play at the casino with the best atmosphere, even if it allowed smoking. Also, I think it would be tough to enforce. Millions of non-regular travelers, used to going into casinos and lighting up... seems like it would be unenforceable.
