To rent a car or not to rent a car.....

That's good enough for me, I'm fine with an average wait time for a bus of 10 to 15 minutes when I don't know the schedule.

Also, it's very easy, in this day of smartphones and scratchpaper, to check the actual bus schedule and cut wait times down to an average of 2-3 minutes.
We have visited Las Vegas 6/7 times a year and for the past 14 years have always rented a car. One advantage is you can come and go as you please. There is really to many things to do not to have a car. I found out if I'm stuck in one place to long it gets to costly. The car really pays for itself.
We always rent a car, as we stay off strip at a local's casino where the vp is much better. When we do go to the strip, I find it more convenient to leave the car in one spot - this time we are at Ballys for 3 nights and the car will remain there if we are doing strip properties. We simply walk the strip all the way down to where we want to go and jump on a bus to come back. Plus we do alot of side trips, Primm, Laughlin, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and I am not doing the bus thing for those trips after being cooped up in a plane for 6 hours to get there!!!
Also always get one. And as mentioned easily would tie or be less than what my expenses would be if I went and did all the same things with cabs or shuttles. And more convenience for me. I do not do busses.

Car rental and freedom to go and do as we please - $200+

Paying Cab Fares & waiting a few minutes for shuttles & buses to avoid a DUI & jail time because we come to Vegas to enjoy comped drinks and have a great time while we are gambling - PRICELESS!
from your other thread, it sounds like you are consuming adult beverages pretty much fromt he time you wake up until you go to bed when in Vegas. This is exactly why I do not rent a car when I am there. I would not do it unless a) you are prepared to not drink for several hours at a time or b) you have a non drinker (or someone who won't drink for a while) to act as designated driver.

I do not have a burning desire to go to locals casinos. I can visit pretty much the exact same places at home. I do fine with staying on the strip or downtown for the duration of my trips as long as I have my alcohol

Renting a car, for me, is a no brainer. Come and go whenever I feel like it, day or night. Valet park whenever it is available. I normally stay @ 2 or more properties when visiting, and if I drink too much I stay on site. I don't go to Vegas to get and stay drunk. I can do that at home. Vegas has much to offer and even if I get lost when driving I get to see more of Vegas. I have been visiting Vegas for over 25 years and have always rented a car. I personally feel that one would deprive themselves of a lot that Vegas offers without this cheap mode of transportation.
i'm staying at M mid-april. taxi was quoted $40 one way. Dollar is $118 for three days. I'm renting.
