Vega$ with Dan Tanna

I just watched the first three eposides thru netflix. It was filmed in 1978 and I really enjoyed seeing how much the strip has changed! In one eposide at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Flamingo, O'sheas was being built and in one scene they were on the construction site where Dan Tanna almost gets killed. The Riveria front looks different with parking in the front? Also the Circus Circus has a water fountain out front? and I had never heard of the Silver Bird? And then downtown, before fremont experience, the Golden Gate looks different (It seems to have a fake front?) They show alot of vegas. It's alot of fun to watch.

I was a big fan of the show long before I'd been to LV. Parking in front of casinos was common until the strip really started to build up. The other fact that got me was the number of gas stations on the strip. On my first trip I walked into the Desert Inn (Tanna's home casino) and it looked unchanged from 12-13 years before when the show was filmed. In fact it pretty much stayed that way until it closed. Why change "class?"

Good Luck!

Guess what we're watching this very instant? The last episode of Season 1 of Vegas on DVD. We bought Season 2 and always pace ourselves watching the episodes before our next trip. We really enjoy the show!

I really like this show . . . . I'm going to purchase the series. I can add it to my Vegas movies I like to watch before going to Las Vegas:

Vegas Vacation
Honeymoon in Vegas

I remember that up until a couple of years ago that was a gas station that was I believe between the Boardwalk and the Monte Carlo.

They had a sign out front that said free aspirin and tender sympathy.
I remember that sign very well, Loyd. But I believe it was before the Monte Carlo was built. We used to see it when driving south to go to the Hacienda. Remember that one?

Just barely. Sometimes I like to go on Youtube and watch old videos of the strip and downtown.

Sure brings back memories.
The Hacienda was where Mandalay Bay is now. That was considered "far out" from the Strip, which ended with the Tropicana Hotel, back in the '80's. Redd Foxx was usually the headliner at the Hacienda.
Believe it or not and this is no joke but back in the late 70's when we arrived in Vegas we were staying at the Dessert Inn and had just checked in and they were filming scenes from the show out by the pool and I was able to get a autograph from Dan Tanna himself, of course there were lots of ladies around him. It was in the summer and had to be over 100 deg. outside and a lot of the guys had suits on, ouch. Also I have a picture of the now long gone building where he pulled into and lived. True Vegas moments.....
