vegas in december

We are going out to vegas the week before christmas . (16 thru the 21st) How should one dress as I have never been there this late in the year ? What are the weather conditions this time of the year ? Youre advise would be appreciated, also I have been offered a deal at the Rio two rooms compted , however would I be better office staying closer to the strip this time of the year?
The middle of December is usually the slowest time in Vegas for tourism so there are a lot of great deals to lure tourists during this time. The National Rodeo Finals comes in for 10 days at the beginning of December and then it is Dead Dead Dead until people start coming in for New Years Eve which is about December 27th. We will have a tourist boost this year because of 12/12/12 so lots of couples will be coming in to get married as they did on 11/11/11, 10/10/10 etc. A number of shows are dark during this time. I don't think that you can do any better than getting comped for 2 nights at the Rio. You can't get any better than free unless a strip property sends you a similar offer.

The daily temperature in December is in the 50's while it can go down to the mid 30's at night. Along with being a dry heat, it's also a dry cold so chilly temperatures aren't as chilly as they would be in a moist climate.

We go to Vegas the 1st week in December every year. It is normally jeans and long sleeve shirts in the day and definately a jacket at night. That being said we got married 4 years ago in December and it was 72 degrees and sunny on our wedding day. They did have snow the following week though.
I frequently visit Vegas the week before Christmas. It can be sunny in the 70s or 60s or rain like H*** with temps in the 40s and snow in the outer lying areas. How one would dress depends on where one is from. Someone from a cold climate might wear shorts and t-shirts when it's 65-70 and sunny. Someone from a warmer climate like me might find it chilly when temps dip below 65. The best thing to do is to check weather.com for the forecast a few days before you leave and pack accordingly.

It's easy to get to/from the strip at Rio. You can either take their shuttle, the bus on Flamingo, or it's about a mile walk. I'd only walk during daylight hours though.

First week of Dec is our normal time in Vegas also. Have seen it chilly and need a jacket during the day and also seen it where you could go out to the pool. That being said--jeans and a t with a jacket for the evening.
We always go in December. Usual clothes plus a light windbreaker that we rarely use. Many of the outdoor escalators around Mirage properties are usually down for maintenance in mid December
December is one of our yearly trips as well. Like being around NFR, marathon crowd and the beginning of Christmas time. Weather has already been discussed, so nothing to add. Will be there this year from 12/3-12/8 at either MC or GN.
FYI can be very windy 65 sound OK with 30mph winds not so fun
We usually go between Christmas and New Years. Weather is usually pleasant but on the cool side. Watch the weather channel and see if any cold fronts are due to hit while you are there. Dec. is a good time to go.
I go every year after the Rodeo (mid December).

I've never needed a coat. December in vegas = October in Chicago. Jeans and long sleeved shirts are comfortable. You might need an extra layer at night - but not a coat. Maybe a hoodie or something.

Crowd levels seem mixed each year...last year it was relatively crowded....the year before I visited some casinos with more employees than guests.

Pros: Cheap rooms, easy reservations, X-Mas decorations, buffet deals everywhere (Stations have been offering 1/2 price buffets the last few years), crowds are small enough to give you access to just about anything you want to do.

Cons: No pools, some shows go dark, limited hours at some restaurants and attractions.
