what would you do?

I was waiting in a casino in Illinois for my husband who went into the mens room. I stood in one place so he would see me on his way out. Feeling silly I stared at the floor, where I saw a $5 bill. The man in front of me saw it too as he tried to kick it with his feet. It fluttered up and behind him, but he kept on going. As I bent to pick it up I saw it had magically turned into a $50. My first impulse was to hold it up and ask if anyone lost it-but I bet a lot of people suddenly would have realized they had lost a $50. Hubby came out and I said lets go now, holding that $50 in my hand. I would have felt like a thief if we had stayed. My question is this-is there a rule on these matters and WOULD YOU HAVE KEPT IT TOO?
If it was obviously nobody there right then and there, yes,i would've kept it alsso. If you shouted "hey!,this 5o belong to anybody?" Would've got several responses .i'm sure. LOL

Some time ago, I was surprised to learn that money on the floor in casinos legally belongs to the casino and should be turned in to security.

If I knew who lost it, then it goes back to them,
but you can't just ask people if they lost $50, because probably the first person that you asked would say "Yes".

I've found money before, and if I don't see who dropped it, then it belongs to me.
I remember the time I was in a supermarket aisle with only one other person walking ahead of me.
Not knowing, he dropped a $20 bill and I picked it up. I then followed him up the aisle until I caught up with him, and returned it to him.
......... and it was at a time in my life when I could have really used an extra $20.

What any of us would have done shouldn't matter to you. I also read what Sue mentioned, but I'm pretty certain the "casino" didn't drop it. I think you answered your own question, when you sai, "I'd feel like thief if I stayed there." No difference if you stay or go. Your action is the same. I just know that if I dropped a $50, I'd hope someone would turn it in.

Good Luck!

I'm confused. The man saw it, kicked it then kept going. Wonder why he also didn't pick it up.

My husband tried to turn in 3 one dollar bills he picked up from the floor at Bellagio, because I had told him the "rule" about found money in casinos. Security laughed at him, told him to keep it and move on.
It doesn't sound right, but Sue is correct the casino claims any found money as theirs.
I use to leave chips and tito slips as tips for maid service and was told the maid could lose her job if caught cashing them.
I believe thats what happened to the poster who was 86ed at the Bellagio a while back.
Last Saturday I was at a local indian casino cashing a TITO ticket at a cash dispenser and notice a $20 on the floor in front of the ATM - I cashed my TITO ticket, picked up the $20 and flag down the slot floor manager. She thanked me for turning it in and said they will call surveillance to see who dropped it.

Later that same day I was at a different Indian Casino and got a w2G for $1235 and another one for $4412
