Who else could care less about video poker?

As I understand it Nevada law requires that each video poker hand be randomly dealt from a freshly shuffled deck - so the pay table should not influence the hand dealt - only the return on the hand dealt.

Yep, that's how Nevada's rules operate. Fresh deck every time.

BTW, since I like video poker, it's people like me who could care less about it.
roycpa, I don't play DB in any denomination.

Lisa, with Roy's quote above, he's saying that with Double Bonus Poker paying 10 For the Full House, 7 for the Flush and 5 for the Straight, this is all paying more than normal and so with the correct pay schedule and smart play, the return is likely (the more you play it) better than a short pay machine.

Again, there is something to be said about the comps that you may be receiving on top of your play, but the longer that you play on a better pay scheduled machine, the more likely that you will end up with positive (money-wise) results.

I understand what roycpa is saying. I also understand the results I get when I play.

Roycpa, I don't think there's a little Leprechaun inside the machines I play nor do I expect a facebook game to pay for my Vegas trip or generate comps to feed a large group.

I said what I said at least partially because I've done pretty well with restricting my play to games that not only preferably return at least 99.5% in and of themselves plus restricting the amount of Variance (Volatility) that I'm willing to face.

A Variance of 28 (with 10/7/5 Double Bonus) is basically the highest that I'm willing to face. Double Double Bonus has a Variance of 42! That's quite high in my book. The higher the Variance is, the more prone a player will be to have wild "cold" (downward) periods.

This is why I hesitated to reply in the first place, Lisa. If you really think you get better results on a short pay machine than on a full pay one, no matter what the game is, then you don't really understand what any of us are saying. Yes the variance can influence the outcome in the short run, but it takes only one full house on a JOB or a Bonus or a DB or a DDB machine to change your result. You don't need thousands of hands to see a difference. The same cards will come up no matter the pay schedule, which is what you are saying isn't correct for you. Roy
I also hesitated to reply because I knew offering a viewpoint of why optimal pay machines sit empty wouldn't be popular. I fully understand what you and Rec are saying. I tend to get a lot of 3-of-a-kinds. Because 15 pays more than 10, I play DDB instead of TDB.

Again, I understand your viewpoint. In the short run, if one doesn't get a full house or flush, it doesn't matter. Perhaps, I play vp in the short run instead of the long haul.

Let's agree to disagree.
I still regret never having learned to play VP. It always seemed so intimidating. But so did blackjack before I memorized basic strategy. Now I play that without a second thought.
I'll be out there in a few weeks so might give it another shot then.

For those of us that like staying on the strip, there is also the expense of getting to casino's that have "full pay" games. Since my wife and I like to drink in Vegas, we dont rent a car. For us to take a cab downtown and back will cost about 50 or 60 bucks. We would have to get alot of full houses and flushes to recoup the cab fare.

An earlier poster stated that they go to Vegas just to gamble. That entertainment and amenities mean nothing. They dont play at their local casino's because of poor pay schedules. It must take alot of full houses and flushes to recoup that airfare.

Like Lisa, I've also had better luck on short pay machines. The 2 royals in my lifetime were both on short pay machines. Sometimes I wonder if video poker is truly random.
