For those of us that like staying on the strip, there is also the expense of getting to casino's that have "full pay" games. Since my wife and I like to drink in Vegas, we dont rent a car. For us to take a cab downtown and back will cost about 50 or 60 bucks. We would have to get alot of full houses and flushes to recoup the cab fare.

An earlier poster stated that they go to Vegas just to gamble. That entertainment and amenities mean nothing. They dont play at their local casino's because of poor pay schedules. It must take alot of full houses and flushes to recoup that airfare.

Like Lisa, I've also had better luck on short pay machines. The 2 royals in my lifetime were both on short pay machines. Sometimes I wonder if video poker is truly random.

Since your post was directed at me yo eleven, I'll respond.

First, I get free rooms and meals when I go to Las Vegas. If I spend additional money on food it's because I choose to do so. The difference between me and you is that I play games with an advantage over the house. I am the favorite at the game where you are not and never will be.

As for airfare is your ticket free? I have a much better chance of recouping my airfare than you do. It must the greatest hotel/show on earth to justify the expense of your travel.

Now as to your orginal post: Why does something other people do in Las Vegas "bother" you? What business is it of yours?
yo eleven, Rio has a 9/5 DDB progressive in quarters as does Harrahs Laughlin. Wish I could remember the paytable at Bally's 25c DDB progressive.
Yeah right vegasvp. You have an advantage over the house. Keep fooling yourself. I read your last trip report. Good job!

Thanks for the info Lisa. But like I said, I don't take VP to seriously. It's just something to pass the time while relaxing at the bar with a few cocktails. We usually play at Gustav's bar in Paris. The last time we were there the DB payed 9/6. I guess that means that for each flush or full house we're being shorted $1.25. I can live with that. It's worth it because the drink service is excellant.

Yo eleven,

I DO have an advantage over the house every time I play. That doesn't mean I win EVERY single session. But I still have an edge. You're just too dense or mathematically challenged to understand probability.

You read my last trip report? I'm surprised you can read because you have the math skills of a third grader.

I don't play slots or short-pay games but I don't start threads critical of people who do. I don't get why you're "bothered" by full pay video poker players. Why do you care what I do?

I won't respond to any more of your sarcastic posts. I'm finished with this thread and you're now on ignore.

That's exactly the right way to think about it. (Conicidentally, it's also how I approach bartop VP lol.)
There is a big point that seems to be missed here and I thought I would add my two cents. First, in terms of odds, there is no difference between a full pay machine and a short pay machine. I have the same odds of hitting a royal on a full pay machine as I have on a short pay machine. The difference IMO is the chances of hitting a royal on a full pay machine is higher than on a short pay machine. Why? In any typical session, you absolutely need full houses, flushes and straights to stay in the game and extend your session bankroll and have more chances (hands) to hit a royal, or straight flush or 4oK. If you are grinding out a session and not hitting 4oK's, straight flushes or royals, your survivability depends upon the full houses and flushes to keep you in the game or else you will go bust. If you are being short changed a credit or two on these mid-tier hits, you will have less chances (hands) for a larger hit. In a typical session, you should have multiple full houses, flushes and straights and if you are short changed one hand per then you could lose out on between 5 - 10 hands (possibly more when you consider wins off of these potential hands) of oppportunities for a larger hit. This is my rationale of why I play full pay machines (when I can find them) over short pay machines. That is not to say that I have never hit a royal on a short pay machine (I have multiple times) and that I have never lost money on a full pay machine (I have multiple times), but in the end with the right strategy and luck, a full pay machine will provide me with more opportunities or chances or hands for a larger hit than a short pay. Just my two cents.

As for the thread itself, video poker is a fun game, but I know it isn't for everyone. I have a lot of friends who head off in the opposite direction when I am heading to a VP machine. The difference is at the end of the trip I might be up or down a little and they are usually down a lot because they lost their shirts at the tables or slots or whatever.
