Will casino's give you a check for cash?

Lets say you have a really successful trip, you're ready to head for the airport, and you have 10k in cash. Will the casino give you a check in exchange for cash? Nobody wants to travel with that kind of money, especially on an airplane. I would not be comfortable putting that kind of cash in the basket at the security checkpoint. I'm sure some of the posters here have had some really successful trips. What do you do with all that cash?

What a nice problem to have. . .

I think I once read in someone's trip report they talked the casino into doing that. However, you could always ask for part check, part cash, or all check if receiving a hand pay.
Here's how it works most of the time.

1) Contrary to popular belief, it is perfectly legal to travel domestically on an airplane and carry over $10,000 in cash. You only have to report it when traveling internationally. However, the TSA folks also have the right to question you about why you have that much cash. Technically, they can't detain you but some of them are bullies. There was a particular story of a man traveling from NY to Vegas carrying $6K. He was questioned for a while for carrying such "an extravagant amount of money." Perhaps it's extravagant to a TSA agent, but certainly not for someone going to Vegas. Further, you run into the possibility of a lot of other passengers seeing how much cash you have with you. You want to avoid that.

2) Even if you get into Vegas with cash taped all over your body, you'd never get out with the new security scanners. The new scanners will see they cash on your body.

3) If you bring $10,000 in cash, win $2,000, you can't take all $12K to the cage and ask for a check. You can only get a check for your winnings (so you could get a check for the $2K). This is to prevent money laundering. There are some exceptions to this rule, but it's too shady for me to know anything about.

4) If you are going to bankroll $10K, you don't need to bring it in cash. You can simply wire the money to the cage in advance. In addition to being nice and safe, there is another benefit. You will get noticed by the casino for wiring in that kind of money and I'm sure they will also take care of your room, meals, etc.
You can keep cash on you- unless it's coin... no need to put that in a TSA basket

But why not keep a bank deposit slip on you and make a deposit before you leave for the plane home??

Thats why I have a Vegas bank account with US Bank. Have made a deposit in Vegas several times. But a couple of trips ago I was leaving early Mon AM and had won 15K over the weekend. TSA questioned the amount of money but I had the W-2s handy, so no problem.
Also solves the problem of taking alot of money with you (I never carry more than 2K)...that US Bank account is my ATM only account...but I do have a limit of 1K a day to take out of it!
Halton has it right -

Last April I hit about 8 jackpots for $1600 each plus a few other nice hits at various casinos. I had 7k when I was ready to leave and asked if they would convert the cash to a check. They would only give me a check for $2300 this was the amount I was ahead at that casino So I traveled with 5K in cash.

I have opened a bank acct at wells fargo for my trip in Sept. so if I hit I'll just deposit it into my acct.

If you don't have a rental car........take a Taxi to your bank. (hopefully you have a bank in town)
The taxi drivers "assume" you are going to make a withdrawl. lol
Its worth the price of a cab to safely deposit your funds, instead of flying with it.
I Never fly home with alot of cash.
If you won $10,000 at the tables, wouldnt getting a check from a casino leave a paper trail for the IRS?

I know for a fact if you walk into a bank with $10,000 in cash or more you need to fill out paperwork to deposit it. Another paper trail for the IRS.
No. Winning $10K from the tables and receiving a check with your winnings will not invoke any IRS paperwork. However, technically, you are supposed to report it. If you win exactly $10K you might have a problem getting a check issued since they don't always keep exact count of your winnings/losings at the tables. I figure an error margin of about 20% so plan on winning $12K if you want a check for $10K.
i, too have made a deposit at a local branch of a national bank, eg, citi. However, finding out which ones may have saturday hours is a little more work than most people would do 'just in case.' I have gotten LVH to make out a check for my craps tourney winnings, but i had to get a host involved as the cage didnt know it was winnings just because i walked up saying so. As far as TSA, I have held several hundreds in my paws at LAS, with or without scanners, and at ORD yesterday, where I didnt even empty my hands. the scanner operators will likely ask you to put it in a bowl in front of you as you stand there. I tell 'em exactly what I need the dough for and where I'm going/coming. Never bothered. I also dont worry about the 700 dolla rule, at craps, or any win not a hand pay less than 1200, or any wire transaction over ten large. I'm pretty sure the number of agents looking at money laundering in the low five figure range, at infrequent intervals, is nearly zero. Good Luck
