$20 Trick

Does anyone ever had any luck with the $20 trick at these hotels?

M Resort

Aliante Station

Redrock

or

Silverton

My wife wants to know.As we never seem to be the lucky ones that get upgraded anywhere in Las Vegas.
Thanks for any info good or bad.

Haven't tried at those properties, but, my 2 cents:

The trick is to decide exactly what kind of "upgrade" you want: high floor, view, bigger room, corner room, suite, etc. Specify what you want when you ask, not just "upgrade."

When you hand over your DL and CC, with the $20 discretely visible, act excited to be there and say "I bet you have a really nice ___________ for us." Desk clerks understand the game.
The best advice I got on the subject was to always have an stack of chips when you check in.Place the chips on the counter and play with them which is very natural thing to do while waiting and will be noticed by the clerk.Inquire what you are looking for and if you get it flip them chips and if they can"t/won't help then just say thank you and take the room you would have gotten anyway. I will give them 2 reds for view,4 reds for upgrade and 1 or 2 greens if given a nice suite. No risk and usually works for me.I always save a small stack to take back with me.Good luck,Manny
I would just ask nice, and don't worry about $20 trick at those Props.

I think the idea of what you want is a good one. Another is what you can reasonably expect. Two examples would be the Orleans and Silverton. At the Orleans, the tip might get you a strip view instead of a mountain view, when a nice smile with a courteous inquey might have gotten you the same thing. Basic rooms are mini suites and a bump to a real suite is unlikely. I used to stay there a lot and always got a srtip or pool view just by asking.

The Silverton is similar in that they only have regular rooms and a limited number of suites. Chances of scoring one of them without a strong play record isn't good, so again, you're probably spinning your wheels. In my opinion, $20 isn't worth the difference between a parking lot view or the pool, especially when you can get the pool by asking nicely.

I think the key is to know what you want and ask for it. If the $20 gets it for you, then it's worth it. If you're just asking for a blind upgrade, I'd just go with a nice smile and a little charm.

Good Luck!
