"OK,we screwed up. I'll give you a few points for being a human".

Yep they really screw the ruby. You get nothing. Once you make Sapphire or higher the next year they "give you" additional credits to help you earn your tier.
I just stayed at Sam's Town January 2 and 3,2020. All me and my wifes points were gone, 54000 and 83000 respectively. They said they changed there point policy and if you were inactive for 6 monthes you lost all your points. What a terible thing to do to costomers. This used to be our favorite casinio but after this we will not EVER step into a Boyd property again.
So many casino's are doing the 6 months and points are gone, I guess that should teach us to cash out our points before we leave. Especially if you are like me and only make it to Vegas once a year. It really stings when you put your card in and have nothing left
The thing that irks me the most is that the casinos do not notify you if your 6 months without a visit (and play) will cause you to lose your accumulated points. These cheap bastards love taking away points - which means they don't have to allow the player to use the points to purchase anything/ or cash in their points for actual cash. Pretty damn chickenshit. Just another way to pad their bottom line.
There is a strong legal argument for the casinos taking away points being in violation of the player-casino contract (both stated and implicit in the player's club agreement). You play and get something in return (points, which have a tangible value). Now, six months after that transaction is consummated, they take them away...? Seems like a breach of contract to me. If you dust off that old Contract Law textbook, you'll see that the elements of promise-consideration, the essential parts of a contract, are met when a player gambles and earns points. Taking away those points after the fact is a textbook instance of breach of contract. The points belong to the player--NOT the casino!
Of course, Nevada being one giant company town and the courts being not just controlled but actually owned by the casinos, the chances of a player-friendly ruling in that area are nil.
I noticed in the fine print in one of our midwest casino's that the points, etc would expire in 6 months without any activity. I asked about it at the cashiers cage and it was news to them! but sure as heck, in 6 months, my points and any comps were gone. Now I'm getting their credit card to keep them active. frustrating for sure.
Boyd players need not feel rained on. With the Harrah's system, it was ALWAYS no play in six months and reward points are gone.
MGM/mLife used to be 18 months. Now it is 12 months.
Harrah's/Caesars and MGM/mLife have their branded credit cards which earn points when you use them (which can preserve the points for longer) if you can't do a casino visit in 6/12 months. I'm surprised if Boyd doesn't come up with the same.
And, at least at Harrah's and MGM, they DO inform the player of the point expiration rules, in the brochure they give you when you sign up (get out your magnifying glass), and on their web sites, so those may meet a definition of "contract". Just sayin.'
Well, a larger question re Boyd's contractual obligations was raised when it was pointed out last year that the player's club agreement didn't say "In a few months, whatever player status you earn will be nullified." But as I said, I doubt that the legal niceties matter much. In Nevada, the casinos are the law.
Regardless of all that, making points expire is a dick move and doesn't hurt them as much as it should because everybody does it (reminiscent of anything else??). Any casino that said your points don't expire would have a huge competitive advantage (as would one that said no resort fees, free parking, 3:2 blackjack, fullpay VP, complimentary oral sex for Diamond status and above, etc.). But they tend to act as a cartel rather than independent entities in that regard. There's more collusion than competition.
After all, how many folks do a yearly jaunt to Vegas and get their asses handed to them but are consoled by the fact that they've earned lotsa valuable slot club points, so when they come back next year..."Harvey, we should go back next year, we can spend all those points we earned." Sheila is in for a nasty surprise, and yeah, it was in the fine print, but still...

I got my 500 carryover tier credits today
That's what we got too. I had to do with how many you had at the end of the year, as to what they carried forward. That means you had over 500 extra tier credits from the minimum of Saphire.
