Distance from Gold Coast to Palms?

Hi all,

I don't drive in LV, so have limited all my prior stays to mid-strip and Downtown. Cabbing has become expensive to travel too far off the beaten path. I really, really want to use the Palms 50% coupon this year and have a kinda plan in mind. This is where I could use your advise for the frugal...

If I understand, the Gold Coast is really close to the Palms and has a shuttle to the Strip. I need to stay over the weekend, and Palm's weekend rates are pretty high whereas Gold Coast is really cheap for the May dates I'm looking at. Maybe stay two or three nights at Gold Coast (walk over to the Palms to play, spa and eat, etc) and then shuttle off to the strip for a few nights -- then cab downtown for a few nights.

Would you say that is a workable plan, and if so, does the Gold Coast have a few good bars, clean rooms, friendly people and enough slots and VP to keep it interesting? (I'm not overly fussy, plenty comfortable at Golden Nugget and Ballys.)

Thanks!
There is no distance from Palms to Gold Coast - you just have to cross Flamingo. It may take longer to get from a Strip resort's parking garage to the casino than from GC to Palms.
And yes, Gold Coast has a very good bar (with great bartenders and 9/6 JoB), clean rooms, friendly people and more than enough slots and VP!
It is about a 4-5 minute walk from the front of Gold Coast to the front of the Palms. You just need to essentially cross the street. I really think the Gold Coast is one of the best deals in all of Las Vegas. All the rooms have been renovated in the last 18 months. They have some great restaurants, a really well priced and decent buffet, one of the best Chinese restaurants in all of Las Vegas.

For bars, they have (1) The Red Zone - sports style bar. (2) Center Casino Bar - self explanatory (3) TGIF Lounge

On the weekends they use the showroom for cover bands and Latin styled music. I was surprised, but the weekend Latin show really attracts a tonne of people. In fact, people will line up in advance to get a good seat.

They also have a bowling alley which I believe is open 24 hours.

All in all, I used to be a long time advocate of the Golden Nugget, but lately I have found the Gold Coast to be a better deal. The staff are all very nice and helpful. I think the Gold Coast is a very viable option which which will pleasantly surprise you.
Stay at Gold Coast, use their strip shuttle, walk to the Palms. You will not regret it.

Thank you for that -- very helpful!
VP is good at both places, but probably a better selection at Palms. But I guarantee you will get you more from you play at Gold Coast, particularly if you pay attention to the multiplier days. Off and on this has been our go to casino. I agree with others, it's a nice place with nice amenities that offers great value.

Just make sure with the 9/6 Jacks Or Better that everything is paying what it should be including the Royal Flush. Around Gold Coast I previously found at least some of them that were paying 2,500 coins for the Royal Flush instead of 4,000 coins.

You probably have the right plan given the price difference. I'll just say this: Gold Coast is kinda old and a little grungy. Not dirty ... it just has a worn out feel to it. The Palms is very new and shiny by comparison. And the Palms buffet is light years ahead of Gold Coast in quality.

Price is always an important factor so a big difference would psuh me to Gold Coast. If you're only saving $10/night or less I'd stick with the Palms.

I am not fully sure what days you will be staying, but you mentioned the weekend. It is my understanding that the Palms 50% coupon is valid Sundays through Thursday. That aside, staying at the Gold Coast and visiting the Palms is certainly a workable plan.
We just spent 7 nights at the Rio due to CET free nights but we mostly ate at the Gold Coast. The buffet is almost as good but about 3 times cheaper. The Gold Coast has better VP than the Rio. The Palms has a small section of 100% VP in quarters in the back of the casino (mostly 10/6 DDB and a version of deuces). Without pulling out my MRB I would say that the 50% coupon is good anytime but check it out. If the Gold Coast shuttle does not work for you go take the one at the Rio it runs either to Ballys (great midstrip location) or Harrahs.
