Gold Coast Review

With thanks to all the feedback from LVA users, I returned from an enjoyable trip at the Gold Coast.

Now before even booking there, I realized that this property was not in the same class as The Venetian or The Bellagio and I was alright with that. I was after a place which was clean, easy to get around and one which offered value. I would definitely say that it did deliver upon that promise. You see, I have been a very loyal and long time client of the Golden Nugget and after this trip, I think I may be switching over. Below are my reasons why the Gold Coast is a great place to visit.

Rooms
========

Like I said, the property is not a 5 star property, but I will say that the rooms are recently renovated and more than comfortable. I was very very lucky when I checked in as I was upgraded to a suite. I received a 1 bedroom suite complete with a separate room which included a dining table, wet bar, fridge and couch.

I had a chance to look at the other styles of rooms and I was told that in the next 6-8 months, all rooms will have been upgraded. Soon the now existing “premium” rooms will be considered the basic room, and an additional upgraded room will be added and called the “new premium room” or something like that. Essentially, the “new premium” room will be very similar to the existing “premium” room, but with some upgraded furnishings and carpet.

Check In
========

This was as painless as you can hope for. Because I checked in around 1:30 p.m., there was only another person in line. The front desk representative was very professional, attentive and quick.

Food
======

I tried the TGIF's and it was good (not great, but not bad either)

I had a chance to try the breakfast and lunch buffet and in my opinion, there was more than enough food to satisfy everyone. In fact, I went with a group of people for lunch who were self proclaimed “picky eaters” and they were very happy with the quality and selection of food available. When I told them the price, they initially did not believe me. These people have been used to staying at the Las Vegas Hilton for the last few years where higher prices were the name of the game. They did not believe me when I told them the Gold Coast's buffet prices.

I also had a chance to try out the Chinese restaurant, Ping Pang Pong. This place is furnished very basically, but it is the food which really sets this place apart. I had tried a seafood dish and it was extremely good. The service here was also very quick and efficient. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who likes Chinese food. I am just disappointed I did not have a few more tries at this restaurant.

Parking
=======

I had a car rental and found this to a very great benefit of the Gold Coast. By simply parking on the 4th level with it's ample parking spaces, you just walked inside the covered bridge directly into the casino. It took me only a few minutes from my room to my car. An additional benefit was the access to either the I15 or Desert Inn road which made my trips to the convention centre very easy.

Service
=======

Everyone, including the front desk staff, the security staff, the buffet staff, the bar staff, the operator and the housekeeping staff made it feel like you were a valued customer and not just a number. The entire staff at this property should be commended for their service. They were always more than willing to help out.

Casino
======

The size of the casino is very deceptive as it is much larger than you expect. They have a rather large sports book. I did have a chance to win a bit of money on the slots which was a nice benefit. They also offered $5 blackjack.

Lounges / Bars
===========

The Red Zone bar had some great happy hour specials which included $3 well drinks and $1 Coors light. It was a nice place to sit, relax and enjoy a few drinks without paying an arm and a leg.

The showroom offers consistent entertainment. Often there is a magic show in the afternoon for a low price. In the evenings, they had a cover band called HNLV. This was a great band and the venue was very nice but I suspect perhaps the venue might be a little too large as it felt empty.

The bowling alley is located upstairs and has numerous lanes. They advertised that on Friday and Saturday evenings they offer “Cosmic Bowling” which is bowling with dark florescent lights and music.

Overall
========

While I was lucky to receive an upgrade to a suite, I was still very impressed with the entire Gold Coast Hotel and Casino. The location of the hotel, along with the ample parking lot made it very easy to get around with a car. The staff are the real stars of this property. Overall this property offers great value. I will definitely pay another visit to the Gold Coast.
I am really happy to hear your report. I've always been a fan of their breakfast buffet - I think it's very under-rated. Will consider staying there in the future!
Thanks for the report. I have a room booked for 2 nights in 3 weeks. We ate at the buffet about 2 years ago and did not like it much. I will have to try it out again.
Thanks Rkorbyl.

Very detailed Review

This is what the LVA is all about, ........ good solid info on Las Vegas.

Great review. Considering GC for an upcoming stay. Does anyone know if in-room safes were added with the room renovations? I seem to recall that the rooms at GC did not have them previously.

Thanks in advance,

Jimbo

I agree with your review. I have been a frequent guest of the GC and always enjoyed my stay. The new rooms are definitely nice and I am glad to hear they are going to complete the remaining rooms. I also very much enjoy Ping Pang Pong and eat there at least once every trip. The Noodle Exchange is also very good. The buffet is also good in my opinion. I only wish they had more multi line VP but otherwise the gambling is better than average. Staying across the street at the Palms next trip but will stop in for some food and a little play.
We stayed in a premium room last November and NO they do not have in room safes.
Hmm...I used to stay at the Gold Coast and my room always had a safe. It's been a number of years, though, since I stayed there.
Thanks for the solid review. GC used to be my Vegas home casino but then my host moved to SP and they downgraded the vp. The vp is a bit better now but I've moved on. Still visit the GC on multiple points days, though. PPP is outstanding. My biggest regret with GC is their replacing the old coffee shop (and that great steak special) with the TGIF.

Breakfasts have always been wonderful, the other meals kind of hit and miss if you don't happen to like the limited offerings. Still well worth the money as compared to the strip. I personally used to just get by on a huge breakfast, once the cafe was lost with the late night specials. Used to order the late night pancakes for $1.99, I think, and it would feed 3 easily. The still have late night food in a corner of the buffet but I've never tried it. I may be confusing them with someone else, but I eventually got so tired of prime beef that I would scarf up on their char cooked hamburger patties instead. Delicious! And I believe their self serve ice cream was terrific, as well.
And, yes, the friendliest staff possible, even the players club guys and gals. Parking was a breeze. Really liked the place, especially when the Palms was.................the Palms. Not sure what they are trying to be now.
