GVR or Aliante

Heading to Vegas the end of September. We've stayed at Red Rock in February and enjoyed it, but now are thinking of staying at the other end of town. Which would you recommend between Green Valley Ranch and Aliante?
We have stayed at both and they both have pros and cons. Both hotels are off the strip.

GVR is a upscale hotel, casino. However, we noticed that the casino was smokey. The room was great and we have a wonderful view. The buffet is one of Stations better restaurants. There werent any other casinos nearby. GVR is a little more upclass if that doesn't bother you.

Aliente is located at the far North end of Vegas. It is in an area more by itself but is not that far from the Cannery. The rooms were very nice being a new hotel we had a nice view of the strip off to the left and the pool. The restaurants inside the casino were very friendly and there were quite good. We enjoyed their buffet but it wasn't the same standard as GVR but not by much.

Either hotel you stay at will be fine. The restaurants will be good at either one and your experience will be great at either.
I've stayed at both as well and enjoy each property. If you aren't getting comped food, then GVR is the best for restaurants and shops. The District has a wide range of places to eat.

Both have good pools and good rooms. Location wise, GVR is only 5 mins from the airport and 10 mins to the strip.

I would pick the one with the best offers, but right now all I get a generic use at any hotel offers, in which case I choose GVR every time. If the Aliante offer was slightly better I might choose otherwise.
Also stayed at both.
GVR pros: standard rooms much larger; restaurants, especially buffet, better.
GVR con: could be long walk from your room to casino.

Aliante pros: if you use valet parking, this might be one of the easiest casinos in LV to check into...front door to front desk to elevators a matter of steps. we also liked the casino layout; good video poker selection.
Aliante cons: it does SEEM isolated, but that wasn't an issue with us; they do need a coffee outlet, although I was told that at one time they had a Dunkin Donuts. When we stayed in late April, you could get a morning cup of coffee in the gift shop!...hopefully, that has changed by now.

we didn't use the pools at either property.

if you aren't being comped or have the standard station offers, would also assume roomrates at Aliante would be more favorable.

Each has its charm. Rooms at GVR are larger and have a soaking tub. Also, use of the spa facilities are included with the amenity fee. If your room is complimentary, so is the amenity fee.
I've had better luck in Aliante's casino.
Aliante is nice, new and has a local casino feel to it.

GVR is truly more of a resort - like Red Rock.

GVR is also only about 10 minutes to Sunset Station, and 15 minutes to M

If you really liked Red Rock, then you'll probably enjoy GVR.

If you want something smaller, then you might want Aliante.

If the spa/fitness area is important- the definitely go with GVR.
I'm a huge Red Rock fan, but the dates I wanted to go were already booked, so I stayed for $19/night at GVR instead.

Casino and buffet were great. Property and rooms were very nice. The staff was very snooty, from checkin to the slot club to the hosts. Tried to use my points to pay for the room, was told by registration and the hosts that I could not, but when I returned home, posters on this board said I could have purchased Station Bucks with points at the slot club and paid using those. No one even whispered a word of this, so I paid cash.

I did complain over the treatment in a survey and a manager replied saying to contact her directly my next stay and she would make it right. I didn't like the property, or the location, enough to ever go back with the attitudes.

I've heard Aliante is much more welcoming and a very nice property.

I stayed at Aliante on my last stay and really enjoyed it. As others have said it is one of the easiest check in's I have ever had and I almost always stay off strip. I found the personnel very friendly, the selection of VP was great, great diversity of restaurants, and the pool was also great. If you have a car the location was not a big deal. Have not stayed at GVR but have stayed at RR and found Aliante accomodations just as pleasent. One drawback was no spa at Aliante. I will be returning on my next trip.
Everybody at Aliante is very friendly. I don't know why that's not the case at GVR, but I've heard that complaint before. And yes, Diane, we would have allowed you to purchase Station Bucks to pay for your hotel room (600 points = $1).

Re food at Aliante -- you should know that Camacho's has closed (yay!), and Cabo will be opened in a couple of months. As a Station-owned restaurant, Cabo will give our guests another way to use their dining coupons. It will also be 600 points = $1, instead of the 1,000 points = $1 as it was at Camacho's.
Sue, we really enjoyed staying at Aliente. We thought that it was by far one of the friendliest hotels we have stayed at. We enjoyed staying out there so much we wouldn't mind being on that end of town when we come out for the winters.
